Agree. The closest hospital to my house in Arlington is Georgetown Hospital. My kids were born there. All of our regular doctors’ offices (Pediatrician, ophthalmologist, allergist, etc.) are located there. The rare times we needed an ER, we go to Georgetown. |
Peak is still around 4 weeks out for US, isn't it? So you should see deaths grow exponentially for 4 more weeks. I am thinking that around 50 -100 K deaths in 4 weeks time, conservatively.
But hopefully the death rate will dropping (not ending, just less people dying) by the 4th week, because most vulnerable people would be dead. Anyone who is already in a nursing home is at great risk, even with quarantine because their care-workers will fall sick. Elderly will die of other complications because of lack of care. Also vulnerable are kids because of parents or caregivers dying. Anyone who can shelter in place without starving or becoming homeless or economically devastated because of job loss have absolutely nothing to crib about. The nation is burning while Nero plays the flute! |
Mid May for VA and MD. And yes, the death rate will rise. https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections |
April 15. Heard it on NPR this morning. |
Stay at home order in VA until June. Governor says you can still use the golf courses as long as you don't get to close but NO to the beaches. |
Yes, "Stay at Home" order or not, I realized this is pretty much the way I've lived for the past three weeks. Not much of a difference. |
Yeah I struggle to see what really changes here, but it's good -- if they feel they must have this in place to hand out misdemeanors (which he said they will) then it's better to have it. I guess the Va Beach/Hampton Roads area saw beach crowds on Sunday which is what inspired this action ASAP which is important -- with people not working and weather getting nicer, last thing you need is people showing up to the beach Fla style. |
The timeframes in Virginia are actually more helpful than in Maryland- they are more hones that this is going to persist into June rather than teasing us that things could open up at the end of April. Now that I know this will be at least 3 months, I can start planning for how to make it work. |
Agreed. I’m not thrilled by the duration, but it leaves a much clearer picture than continuously extending it by a few weeks. |
It sounds like in announcing any initiatives like school closure or stay home, Va is considering going all the way up to the peak AND coming back down before reopening. Lots of other places seem to be looking at getting to the peak and then giving people hope that once we are 1-2 wks past the peak, we reopen; maybe we do and maybe we don't -- you can't predict how fast the downswing of the peak will be. |
It did say he could cancel it before June 10... |
Bring a can of Lysol and spray them like you would a bug. |
Everything's closed but the golf courses! That's ridiculous. Close them down too. |
He should have made it mandatory in the first place. |
How will you feel as June approaches and it gets pushed back another 10 weeks? |
