Safe to assume VA clubs spring seasons are canceled?

Wait and see for what. How long they can keep our money?

It's a fair question if you assume that it remains "your money." I am not sure that is true (and I am not sure that is untrue, to be clear). What does your contract say about that?

the clubs that rent fields from Fairfax County--the fields fees won't have been paid to Fairfax so the clubs should have that money at least.

Providing kids some level of normalcy if it’s safe to do so would be welcome in my home, even if it’s a 5 week season.

Would definitely need to take some measures to avoid spread as well like asking parents to stay in their cars, teams not acknowledging each other pre/post match, etc

Kickins only.

Maybe adopt a style of play that involves minimal contact by simply quickly kicking the ball hard in the general direction of the other team's goal and try to have your fastest players run on to it and score...

5 v 5 on the big fields.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam issued a statewide stay-at-home order that's effective immediately and will remain in place until June 10, unless the governor rescinds it.

Yep. That effectively ends any chance for a spring season.

Stay at home orders do not allow for practices or games.

So you say kick the ball and chase. Wow that would certainly change a lot...

So help me with this...this social distancing is only to prevent the hospitals from getting backed up. It is not a measure to control or beat the virus. The virus is still and will still be out there even if the number of cases goes to zero. The only way to "beat" or "control" this virus is for someone to create a treatment AND a vaccine. I don't see how soccer or even school can resume without a treatment or vaccine in place. Otherwise, we'd just start this all over again. I understand that they are saying that it will be at least 12 months for a vaccine. I know they need to open up business well before a vaccine is found, but I don't see how they can will open up sports and schools until a vaccine is in place. I'm no expert on any of this. I just don't see how sports will open up for maybe another YEAR! Thoughts?

I expect that activities will have to be managed to keep the incidence rate under control. The federal guvmint will likely issue guidelines which will be open to interpretation by state guvmints, and on down to individual businesses. There will be outbreaks which will require additional local mitigations. I don't think we can sustain this lockdown posture for more than a few months.

This entire situation is still very much in the early stages--we'll know more later. There are a lot of variables but before that: what do we know, what do we not know, we do we not know of what we do not know. As we learn more of these disease we can make more predictions, speculations--I agree with you in principle that I don't see what else we can do without a treatment/vaccination. Social distancing has helped, the market is getting involved, we'll figure things out. Until then, that's all I really see on that.

Thanks Forrest for that insight.

I agree with you. I think the topic of this discussion should be more about whether or not there will be a Fall 2020 season or even a Spring 2021 season.

And as the previous posted implied...we don't know much right now, so it's best not to even speculate about when the kids will be able to get back on the field and compete unfortunately. It's going to be really hard for these kids to say motivated on their own for a year.
