Frankly, I work full time from home and now so does my spouse (thankful for this) and with having to take over schooling on top of a full-time job--soccer has been a low priority.

In Fairfax County, the parks are still open and available for non-group use. So we can go and practice finishing, pinging, and bending passes--things we can't otherwise practice at home.

PLEASE don't let your kids join pick-up games! In addition to being at risk of spreading COVID, there's also the risk of getting the parks closed. Don't be that guy.

Today they closed playgrounds, restrooms, and skate parks. Open air fields are still open, but their guidelines are that people do not congregate in groups.

Our club keeps posting and sending training videos for the kids to complete. I make my son do it when the weather is nice but hard to motivate to make him when it is cold or rainy, since there will be no season.

Sounds extreme, but it's true. All school facilities are closed for the school year which includes the rental agreements made with the clubs. There are a few clubs that can get away with sneaking in some training that own their own fields like Loudoun, SYA, and a few others. But the safety issue still persist.

Locking ourselves down simply postpones the inevitable level of probable exposure while our hospitals handle the initial surge. So as a practical matter, in NOVA, a serious bubble parenting area, a lot of parents are not gonna rush their kids out there until vaccines emerge. It is probably based on a fundamental misconception or conceit that their kid won’t get exposed anywhere else, or the fantasy that their children will happily stay indoors for 12-18 months, but there you have it. Who knows.

Agree. Nobody knows the answer to this. My brother lives in NYC (teacher) and it is a frickin' nightmare there right now. The hospitals are putting 1-2 people per hour on respirators (not all elderly or existing conditions either). Things have stopped.

We don't know what it will look like down here for a bit. We will definitely see a spike in cases. My kids are out of school for the rest of the year and the HS and fields they used to practice on on their own are now locked/gated with posted signs and our HS field/track has had police patrol it because a large number of people were still climbing the fence to sneak in and use the track/field. This, since it was a closure by the State, is actually trespassing.

I truly do not think this soccer season or any training will happen before June. The league seasons are over. Now--if things look better who knows--maybe by late May. BUT--the Clubs won't want liability if an outbreak happens due to their resuming activities. There are some truly huge Clubs in the area with thousands of players and their parents. Practice fields are usually packed. I don't know how this bodes. Look how quickly the virus passed through the NBA.
