Exactly. Less is more. What's clear is that there are far more cases in the DMV than accounted for by testing, so calling all teachers in is questionable. I think it was a bad call.

WIS teacher here. We're not on campus today.
Whoever you are, you don't seem happy at WIS, so go get another job.

These trying times call for some levity mixed with gravitas or we will never get through this situation. You sound petty and bitter. As for the post article, why bring up old grievances? That was a nuanced situation led by one deranged PR-savvy unhinged parent. WIS is a great school with (mostly) wonderful staff and administration; certainly not perfect but always endeavoring to improve and reflect.

Last point - if this is the "worst" administration ever - please move on - quit today in fact! The WIS community doesn't need your negativity. I'm sure they'd happily put your salary towards another staff member who needs it in these difficult times.

I agree with the need for humor, but maybe lead by example? Geeze....

No one can explain why we need to be on campus for Zoom meetings, so there is that. But I have an underlying health condition and they aren’t sterilizing until Wednesday. And teachers are allowed to bring their kids!! I know childcare is probably an issue but we are closing exactly because groups of kids aren’t safe right now.

I am fully ready to move to distance learning - modules compete, checklist done, checked that my tech works. Admin doesn’t care. The ignorance of science at a progressive school is so disappointing.

Yes, I can take sick leave. But I only have four days of that left for the year, so burning half at the START of an epidemic to which I am high risk would be stupid. Teachers who did the work already shouldn’t have to go to campus! I really liked the new admin until this week.

They're behaving very badly. I'm so sorry.

What happened at the closing assembly? Seems crazy over there

Primary Day teachers had to go in last week for three days. Totally scary and unnecessary.

After reading this thread, I’m seriously considering not sending my kid to school there. What is the matter with WIS? Are you that incompetent of a school to not realize how serious this pandemic is, and treat your teachers with respect and concern? The disorganization, pettiness, and lack of worldly awareness, and empathy of this school is appalling, despite your world-class motto and IB curriculum. Do you not follow what you supposedly preach? Who are you people anyway? You should be a pillar for the community and a shining example to your students. Shame on you.

For anyone paying $42k a year, you should seriously reconsider and find a better school for your money.

You can’t be serious. Have kids at WIS and couldn’t disagree more.

OP here. So weird to see this pop up again! I am actually pretty happy at WIS, outside of this decision - that’s why it was so frustrating. The decision seemed so at odds with everything else the school has been over the decades.

That assembly was poorly done, though. The WaPo article was wrong but the official response was terrible too.

Explain what you just put here, let them know that you are ready and willing to teach but you are concerned about being on campus due to your health. I hope this works out for you, please keep us updated.

A colleague tried and was told a firm “deal with it” so I don’t dare also speak up.

Actually maybe if more people spoke up they would be more open to change.

Say no

WIS parent here. Haven’t read the whole thread and am sorry the teacher experienced some large bumps on the road initially. I’ve heard similar complaints from people (teachers and parents) at other local schools Just wanted to add that the distance learning is going extremely well for our WIS middle schooler. Admin and teachers (many with young kids at home) are doing a truly admirable job. Thank you.
