Essential personnel (doctors, nurses, hospital employees, mail carriers, etc) what are you doing for

This is a very bad idea for everyone but especially bad for hospital personnel as they will definitely be exposed and bring it home to their families and some babysitter (who will then go home and spread it to their families).

Our friends, who are in ER doctor and a nurse, are hiring a live-in nanny to stay with their kids. The parents will take extra precautions to sanitize before coming home and at some point may end up sleeping elsewhere.

My 69yo, very active and healthy, mom is planning to babysit. I am extremely grateful for this - but now I'm second guessing whether I should allow it? My kids are 9 and 12, old enough to be pretty independent and careful with germs. They know not to hug/kiss Grandma, not share food or drinks, etc.

Yes it sounds like many doctors are recommending this. Can't 9&12 babysit themselves?

For short periods, yes. But the 9yo - partly due to age and partly due to personality - really can't be left alone all day, day after day, for 4 weeks. And the 12yo cannot be in charge of the 9yo, that's really not fair to either of them.

But mom could easily hang out at arm's distance. She really only needs to keep them somewhat on track, make sure they eat, and handle emergencies.

Can your mom at least move in?

Do you think us hospitals will do what Chinese hospitals (admittedly the state can seize hotels) did and give hospital workers the option of staying w/o their family in a hotel room nearby?

I hired DD’s teacher.

Thankfully mine are old enough that they can be home. As I work in primary care I'll likely be home and teleworking before long.

My spouse works in a hospital involved in critical care. I work and finally convinced my employer to let me work remotely. For now, our babysitter will come to watch the kids. My spouse plans to sleep elsewhere in the house and try to be extra careful.

We have no family nearby. Our kids (18mo and 3) are moving in with our nanny and her husband. We know we are about to be working non-stop and will most likely contract the virus.

This is a hard choice but the best choice for now.

Bless you both for your choice, this made me cry, thank you <3 lots of love to you and your kids

This made me cry too! you are an amazing mom!

The nanny is the one who deserves the blessing and who is making the hugec sacrifice! The parents are doing nothing.

Doctors can Afford to pay for help. Stop asking SAH mom's!

It isn't about money. It is about finding someone to do it. I am having my child's friend over next week so his parents can focus on their jobs. I don't know how I would go from no full time nanny to a full time nanny over a weekend during a crisis. How would they?
