Why would you assume that? It’s hot and sunny in LA and FL right now.

Alabama? Mississippi? Louisiana? Texas?

This is taking hold in cool wet climates.

+1. Compare Korea and Singapore too. I think climate matters. And why wouldn’t it?

jfc. do you understand geography?

Seoul is in the 50s now. Cool. Singapore is 82 degrees. Do you?

45 people were just diagnosed on a Nile cruise ship - the same one the Maryland cases came form. It's in the 90s in Luxor, Egypt. The virus does just fine in hot weather.

It's also the freaking desert.

Would you ever decide to self quarantine without symptoms? Say, for example, you’d had casual contact with a confirmed case. What about 2nd degree (contact with someone who knows they had contact with a confirmed case). Or 3rd?

Someone I know was denied testing because of lacking symptoms, despite knowing they were in contact with a confirmed case. Since we know transmission doesn’t require symptoms, where do you, personally, draw the line?

Without a doubt. Had I gone to CPAC, I would have already started. I also did not go to the DC Big Flea today and won't tomorrow - too many people.

I would call my boss, them them i was in contact with a known case, and ask for guidance. If I could telecommute, I would and quarantine myself.

Sounds like the marine was stationed in Naples Italy, which is south of the zone in Italy where people there are getting sick.

My boss is self-quarantining. Her dh came back from Japan last week, and has been asked to quarantine himself for two-weeks. She decided to follow suit. So far, both are fine - one more week to go. On the plus side, she’s learning a lot about what it’s like for the remote employees on her team .

I know someone who went on one of those Nile cruises a week ago, and she's back and not self-quarantining. She's in central Virginia, not up here. UGh.

NP here.

The climate issue relates more to humidity and air density as a transmission factor than temperature. Saying “it’s hot in XYZ” doesn’t mean much.

Regarding the weather issue, let's hear from an expert:

Self-soothing?

Not the PP. Simple science. Flu season dies down as weather heats up. Mid March usually begins to abate

This isn’t the flu.

Some experts think it will slow down. Other say they don’t know how it will behave. It is a NOVEL virus after all.

So it’s not simple science. And it’s not a done deal.

Fairfax

That's a very high risk demographic. I hope they recover quickly.

Most tours to Egypt have a land and cruise aspect. You stay with the same group for the entire tour, which usually includes Cairo, Giza etc. you stay in the same hotel, share group meals, and ride on same tour bus. When you tour Luxor to Aswan it is by river cruise. These are small boats. The potential to pick this up in such a case isn’t limited to the cruise ship. Any group tour involves the risk of contagion.
