Roman Catholic -- looks like it still applies -- just found this from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/lent/questions-and-answers-about-lent.cfm Q. Why do we say that there are forty days of Lent? When you count all the days from Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday, there are 46. A. It might be more accurate to say that there is the "forty day fast within Lent." Historically, Lent has varied from a week to three weeks to the present configuration of 46 days. The forty day fast, however, has been more stable. The Sundays of Lent are certainly part of the Time of Lent, but they are not prescribed days of fast and abstinence. |
Um, the Catholic Church? |
Why do you always start with 'um?' Yeah, we know it's you. |
You must be the poster who uses "we" as if you're communicating offline people on the thread and that they agree with you. |
First time. I guess I’m in good company. Don’t quit your day job, wannabe Nancy Drew. |
DP and I agree to her, so you can include me in her “we” |
Why so nasty? Who stole your cookies? |
| Really, what is with the nasty comments? Some lent. We should be kind to each other. |
| News stories today that the pope was visibly sick yesterday at Ash Wednesday services, touching all those people... |
If people get sick from interacting with the Pope, it was God's will. |
