Is 40 old or not?

Funny thing I could not care less about turning 30 and was totally fine with my age until now.
I also wonder if you feel young, how old your DC(s) are.

Anyone who uses this many emoticons is not old.

Attitude goes a long way in the aging process. I look at my parents---mid-60s---travel internationally 2X a year; go to the gym every monring and long walks at night; grandpa coaches one of his 6 grandsons soccer teams; they are active with their kids and grandkids, host dinner parties, go out in the city....heck--right now they're social life is better than mine. They look about 50. I see other people their age and my now deceased FIL who give up at a certain age and virtually figure 'I'm old, This is it. Life sucks.' They begin to act old and physically fall apart. Pick some older role models---watch and emulate.

I have a 90-year old neighbor with a personal trainer and stories of past (some famous loves) who is remarkable. She hangs with the younger girls and invites us over for wine and gossip. That is the woman I inspire to become.

I'm 34 - but this "sorry for you" amuses me.

The thing about aging is, no one is immune. Everyone (who lives) will turn 40. Sorry! That's just how it works...the person you are sorry for was once your age. It's not like she missed being 25 or 30 or however old you are. She got to experience that too! So silly....

It is ancient if you want to be a professional athlete. For most other things it is a fine age.

The "takes longer to heal" crows feet etc part kinda sucks, but the freedom that comes with a) being treated like a grown up and b) cutting yourself some slack is absolutely liberating.

I will be forty this year, too. So far, doesn't phase me. My mum always said "this is my best decade" for several decades in a row. She's now in her 60s, so I guess getting older is working for her, too!

Plus, age is a bonus in my profession when people grant you a bit more gravitas. That, plus with experience and wisdom, you find yourself less likely to spaz out.

So for me, 40, whether old or not, sounds like a pretty good age to be!

"Maturity and perspective. Heck - this board is a perfect example - the average age is probably low 30's and the predominance of self centered, entitled comments reflects that."

Not to mention the bulk of extremely naive posts.

You are ugly. I am sure of it. I am 100% positive I look better than you. I prob also had alot more fun than you did in my 20's and 30's. Have a nice life, Loser.

Opinion/statistics polls----women unanimously rate '40s' as their best decade in life. Heading into it myself---this is the best I've ever felt and the best place I've been. (and I still pass for a 30-year old).

I would love to see these statistics, do you have a link?

I am turning 40 also. I am in complete denial. How could I possibly be 40 AND have a preschooler? And these new wrinkles on my face - they are temporary right?

It was just my way of acknowledging I'm already a parent, but this would be my first time as a biological mom...

Thanks to all the PPs for the advice on fertility. May have to start a spin off thread on my issues... Want to have kids, but just not ready now. Maybe it won't take me 7 years to be ready...
