Yep, they don't fit in the parking garage. Next time I'm there I'm going to take pictures with my phone and post them here for people to see. |
Don't be ridiculous. I have a Suburban AND an F150, and I've never been anywhere I couldn't drive or park with either of them. |
The 2019 Suburban is 224" long and 81" wide - 18.7 ft long, 6.75 ft wide. A standard perpendicular parking space in Montgomery County is 18 ft long, 8.5' wide. So no, Suburbans don't fit. They're 2/3 ft longer than the space, and they leave less than a foot on either side of the space. Hope you don't mind climbing in through the back. |
First of all, those are MINIMUM requirements. There's nothing "standard" about it, other than all spaces will be AT LEAST that big. Second, it fits, by your own admission - okay, maybe I hang out a few inches, but really? How I get in and out of it is my problem now, isn't it? |
Nope. It's literally the standard. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DOT-Parking/Resources/Files/Article59-E.pdf And nope, it doesn't fit. It's too long. And while it's your problem how you get in and out of your vehicle - assuming that you don't do any damage to the neighboring vehicles - it's other people's problems 1. how they get in and out of their vehicles that you parked next to, or 2. whether they can use a space next to the space that you parked your Suburban in. |
Take your suburban to the parking garage at Rio and see how well you fit. I was there, I saw it with my own two eyes. I also saw people in pickups and large SUV's needing to back up to make a turn around a corner because they couldn't fit in the garage properly with another vehicle coming the other way. If you want to have all large vehicles with no CUV or car that's up to you but don't lie and say it fits perfectly everywhere. I saw it. I was there. Drive your suburban there and park. |
| Another thing for the Suburban driver to think about - if you ever hit a pedestrian or bicyclist with your Suburban, no matter what speed you're going, chances are that you'll seriously injure or kill them. Even if you're just in a parking lot. That's because of the size, weight, hood height, and flat front of your vehicle. |
I'm not the PP but did you even read your own link? (b) Each standard size perpendicular parking space shall be a rectangle having minimum dimensions of 8 ½ feet by 18 feet. A perpendicular parking space is defined as one in which the long side of the space is a straight line that intersects the travel lane and curb at a right angle. |
Not going to exurban Maryland. I can fit my Suburban on the street in front of my house in Capitol Hill and in my downtown work garage. If another car is coming up the garage ramp one of us needs to yield way. |
|
Dude. It's the STANDARD. It literally says so. "standard size perpendicular parking space"
The Suburban does not fit in the standard size perpendicular parking space. If the parking-lot owner wants to have a smaller number of bigger spaces, that's up to the parking-lot owner, of course. But that's another way a person's decision to drive a Suburban affects other people. |
By occupying street frontage that TWO smaller vehicles could fit into. They should at least make you pay $70/year instead of $35 to store your Suburban on the public street. |
you need to settle down guy. the pamphlet you linked says the minimum dimensions are 18'x8.5'. By your logic I take it every space in moco is the absolute minimum size and therefore it's impossible for a Suburban/Yukon to park inside a spot. |
womp womp...take it up with DC DMV |
Presumably some are bigger, if you drive (your Suburban) around to look for them. But fortunately the Suburban owner in question doesn't come to Montgomery County, because they live ON CAPITOL HILL WITH A SUBURBAN. It's hard to imagine anything more ridiculous. |
But I do! I'm the Suburban + F150 guy, and I go to RIO all the time. Next time I'm there, I'll send you a picture - AND measure the "standard" parking space. Also - quoting again the requirement that says that a "standard" parking space shall have the following MINIMUM dimensions. In what world do you think that all parking spaces in Montgomery County are exactly that size (in which both my vehicles fit, so not that it matters anyway). (b) Each standard size perpendicular parking space shall be a rectangle having minimum dimensions of 8 ½ feet by 18 feet. A perpendicular parking space is defined as one in which the long side of the space is a straight line that intersects the travel lane and curb at a right angle. |
