| Agreed. However, releasing platitudes and political correctness doesn’t breed confidence in our school leaders either. |
Law enforcement and possible legal proceedings trump the need for school to parent communication. The principal's and DCPS' hands are clearly tied right now. |
There is a broad spectrum of what communication can mean. There is a legal requirement not to talk about the specific investigation. But that does NOT preclude providing general information about what a policy and procedure is, and importantly now what is being done to protect and ensure the safety of the students and provide a safe and supportive workplace for the staff. Those are also legal requirements. |
Politically correct?! I think there are legal reasons.

Thank you dear teacher, wholeheartedly agree! |
| What specifically do you need to know? |
People like you are a big part of the problem. |
What kind of information do you think the Deal principal should disclose? |
But once the investigation is complete, then the school should name and shame, and very publicly. Deterrence works. |
| Or hopefully fully exonerate. |
DCPS should make as much information available as possible within the law and respecting the privacy of any minors involved. |
The school and DCPS also do have a responsibility to make the PROCESS AND PROCEDURES clear to the community along with what they are doing to ensure kids are safe and protected now and the staff is being supported, they can do this without any jeopardy to the investigation. They need to serve the community as well as the individuals involved. |

It is not at all clear that any abuse happened. Someone made an anonymous call and reported something. This is not - yet - the same as a family going to the police and reporting something specific with enough detail as to be deemed credible.
When that happens the suspect is arrested. It is certainly possible that something happened between a staff member at Deal and one or more students. But the way this was reported makes an investigation far more difficult. |
