What happened at Deal?

I just asked my 12 year old. She is off to her phone to figure it out. Happy to report on the rumor mill.

The school is handling it and the school community has been notified, move on.

Without details, how do you know if it affects you?

Exactly. And there is a reason for it. Partly CYA but also because they are investigating, discovering the facts. Making sure there is a substantiated allegation before trashing anyone. You all will just have feed off each other for awhile. Doubtless it will be known soon enough which staff/faculty member is suddenly on extended leave.

The email said the teacher had been immediately placed on paid leave and removed from the classroom so it shouldn't be too hard to suss out who this was.

And I wouldn't assume the accusations against the teacher were true though I'm glad the school is being cautious - there has been some wild stuff at Deal the last couple of years including a false claim of an attempted abduction.

Actually, the email said the "staff member" was put on temporary leave...it could be anybody that works in the building...admin assistant, custodian, cafeteria worker. Don't assume it was a teacher!

And there was nothing that said they were on paid leave. Geez..talk about a rumor mill.....

It’s a teacher because they said they have identified classroom coverage.

Only if there was a genuine incident and a formal letter went out from DCPS or the administration can you please post it here. Some students may have been impacted but no longer go to the school!

Agreed...

What about the whole and extended community and making sure that all children/families especially those who are so connected are in the loop?

With a kid with an IEP, I have no illusions about the DCPS’s notorious tendency to cover their backsides. I still say give it a little time. If no more is communicated soon, then raise the roof. Till then it’s just gossip.

Just ask your kids - who had a sub today.

DP - but if your kid has been impacted...don't you think they would have reached out to you? And if other students have been impacted - don't you think privacy for those children is the more important then your need to know? It's not like Beauvoir where they covered it up and let the guy escape so he could be put on America's Most Wanted Yes, we don't hear every detail that goes on and a lot of wild stuff does. But this one...leave it be.

Can't disagree more. Everyone has a right to know.
