Thoughts on the name Marin?

Maren is a nice name. It’s a Scandinavian girl’s name.

Really like this name. Was top of our girl list but now a few good friends have used something too similar (like Mary) so we probably won’t use it. Don’t think this is a “trying too hard” name at all. I can think of number of older and younger women alike who have this name. I think it sounds strong and beautiful.

How on earth is this a hard to pronounce name? Do you live in a small, non-diverse town where everyone has the same 3 names?

I really love the name Maren (rhymes with Karen). I prefer that over Marin, pronounced like the county.

It's a traditional irish name, often spelled Mairin as well. Pick your country of origin!

A German coworker of mine is named Maren. I also know a little girl named Marin (pronounced Mare-in). Both are lovely people so I only have positive thoughts about the name, regardless of how’s it’s spelled.

I like it a lot, and I pronounce it like Karen.

Nope. It’s not the same name. OP wants to name her dd Marin/Maren, which rhymes with Karen and is definitely NOT Irish. Máirín, the Irish name is correctly pronounced like Maureen or MOI-reen and doesn’t sound the same or have the same origins as Maren/Marin.

I know many Mairins both here and one in Ireland- all pronouce if Maren, rhymes with Karen.

Point is, there are a lot of ways to approach this name.

I've known a Mairen and two Mairins. Have never known a Marin, so I'd lean toward the first spellings. All pronounced MAIR-in.

I like it!
