Therein tells you everything you need to know about the Janney community. |
| It's interesting because I would also agree that the janney kids are the popular kids at Deal. Or at least the socially dominant ones. I'm not sure why this is. |
| Because there are more of them? |
No kidding! |
It was pretty well known at Janney when the class was in fifth grade. And they carry on to Deal. |
Cue the huffy parents. I can’t believe this is what we are arguing about. |
It's very true - 3 kids that have gone/going through Deal...every year the Janney kids are the "popular" ones. But, given what has happened to some of those kids - you don't want that
|
And what have happened to those kids? |
| Not my DCs report that the girls are very cliquey at Deal. They stick to their cohorts from ES. Boys don’t seem to be and branch out more. |
what the heck are you talking about? Nothing has "happened" to these kids unless you're talking about doing well in school and getting accepted at good colleges. I'm not blindly boosting Janney but to insinuate these kids end of failing is just flat out not true and really shady of you to imply. |
This is a sad conversation. If these are really Janney parents posting about middle school popularity, that says a lot. |
Former Janney parent here. One child has gone through Deal and one 6th grader there now. I think middle school is hard for all middle school girls. They are all just trying to figure out where they fit in a survive it all, the popular kids and the kids being left out. I have had kids in both situations, one kid has experienced both. FWIW, both my children have good friends from Murch, Lafayette and Eaton. All bright kids. The smartest/most academically successful friend of one of my children came from Lafayette. But she would have been that wherever she went to ES. Buy/rent the home you like in the neighborhood that fits your family best. All are good choices. Hearst too. I am sure Bancroft and Shepherd Park are as well but those are very different neighborhoods. |
| Do more of the Janney kids go on to privates compared to the other schools? |
I don't knwo how many go from other schools, but the vast majority of Janney kids go to Deal. |
Research has shown that the really popular kids in middle school tend to end up being burn-outs (drugs, early sexual experiences etc.) because they are in the fast-moving social groups. Can't find the link but will post later. |
