Snarkiness really does not win you anything. It simply demonstrates that something inside you is bitter or sad.

You seem bitter.

Might be helpful to specify what about the school makes it a perfect fit (even more important than what traits your kids has). That way we can all learn something about these schools.

Okay. UChicago. It has been the peer group. Across the board smart but there's always someone better than you in any particular area. It drove humble, cooperative group behavior. Lots of work but no social pressure.

Good to hear. We have one headed that way tomorrow for a two day visit.

Fly-in? Mine did that and it sold her. Enjoy!

VCU. Daughter wanted urban campus to have things to, places to explore off campus, but not a huge city. Worked out perfectly. Richmond is a cool, very walkable city with a great restaurant scene. Got hired in her field by a Richmond company before graduating.

College is loads of fun and too much family money and ego involved for anyone to admit they’re unhappy with their choice. Most are too naive to know what they’re missing out on anyways; you don’t know what you don’t know.

I disagree that no one admits their kid made the wrong choice. There are plenty of kids who drop out or transfer. Also, many people here admit that "in retrospect" their kids might have been happier elsewhere. The post asked for parents who had seen a very happy successful child at college to share their stories. Believe me, there are other stories out there.

What concerned him about Yale? Please explain. Thanks in advance

JMU. Kid got involved in Sports, Leadership, Research, Academics, Interning, RA, and volunteering. Loved school in every way and excelled academically. Excellent relationship with professors and now well positioned and prepared for top grad school. Not driven in HS but thrived here.

Agree. I posted about one of my kids. The other had a perfectly fine experience but not “excellent” and I didn’t post that college.

1 DC chose Muhlenberg and loved it; other chose Colby and hated it. Stuck it out but was not a good cultural fit. However, others would have loved the Colby experience!!

Really depends on the personality your child and what they are looking for in their experience and profession.

I'll let you know after we see DD's first semester grades.... so far she loves her school, social life, etc. but we have no idea what she's up to as a student.

Freshman year courses are generally a joke. Be very alarmed by any GPA under a 3.3.
