2020-2021 Proposed Calendar Options

I've always liked the kids having Inauguration Day off. It's one of the special things about living in the DMV. Especially when it's something to be celebrated.

It didn't start until January 2009. Three Inauguration Days.

Is there a way to provide feedback? I don’t see an email address or website listed in the doc.

Inauguration Day isn’t until 2021.

Yes, it's the source of the "mini-break" in January in calendar option 2 being discussed.

Well, considering this is the 2020-21 calendar, it makes sense.

I have always liked it as well, even though it is a recent addition.

Yeah...so? Current seniors wouldn't even have been in kindergarten yet during any earlier inaugurations.

I thought we had Inauguration Day off back in the 90s, but maybe it was just considered an excused absence if your parents wanted to take you out of school. My dad took me downtown for Clinton's inauguration in 1993 when I was in junior high.

Inauguration Day is an excused absence for students who want to attend. I believe students who cannot attend should be in school, perhaps learning about the Inauguration or even viewing the swearing in ceremony. No need to make it a school holiday.

Calendar three is definitely the best option.

Did anyone listen to the meeting? Did the board members express a preference?

So it's not something MCPS has always done.

As do I. I can only imagine how Yuuuge the 2021 inauguration will be. Can't wait to bring the whole family.

I like A and C options. I don't see the point of the January break, if they want to put in a mini break, do it in February when its more removed from the holiday break.

Jesus. "Ever since MCPS began doing it, I have liked it" is basically the same as what PP said. You're getting hung up over the use of the word "always." Clearly PP was not insinuating that since the dawn of time, MCPS has had Inauguration Day off.

I would love for Inauguration Day to be a field trip day for whatever grade kids learn about national gov't. You many not like the person being elected but it's an amazing process.
