My High School freshman had an honors Bio exam and a Spanish for exam on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. So your child may have not had instruction, but others did.

Maybe individual teachers, but not the general case. We did work in all my HS classes. Even though my students knew the schedule and what we were doing in advance, there was still whining and complaining. Um, we have only 2 or 3 kids absent more than usual. Why would I deny education to the rest of the students who are present?

Wait, it was a half day - usually classes are condensed when that is the case. Did they take exams in super short classes? Or does your HS follow a different schedule?

Our HS flips the schedule. On some days, we have all periods for an abbreviated time period. If there are two half days in a row, we'll have full morning classes one day and full afternoon classes the next, for example.

depends on how schools wish to handle the half days

Mine watched a movie. Then his last period class cancelled it without a substitute and they were told to go home.

How can they do that? It's still an instructional period. No one could step in? Am I reading that line correctly?

But there weren't two half days in a row this week. It was just Wednesday.

His school has an extra period at the end of the day for magnet kids. This was actually a non magnet class and the teacher told them to check in for attendance during lunch and then to leave school with the students who don’t have a 9th period.

In DC--yes. In Montgomery County--no.

Yes, in MoCo because traffic will still affect this region because of proximity to DC. Historically, we have also always had this day off. Shame on MCPS!

Only if you define 'always' as beginning in 2009.

Yes, Yes I do. Times have habits have changed, thus we should keep within the 10 year history.

They should have Inauguration Day off

I work in DC and get off for Inauguration Day, I am hoping MCPS will allow that day off so that we can use the weekend to go snowboarding/Skiing in Pennsylvania. The kids will need a note for Monday but hopefully not Tuesday.
