This says so much more about you than the people going. Not everyone has instagram. Nor does everyone plan family events for the sole purpose of posting on social media. You might want to look up from YOUR OWN SCREEN once in awhile and see whats going on.

We actually go apple picking and make a day of it as a fun family outing, and **gasp**, actually do it because we enjoy it. If we get a few good pics, cool. Maybe they make it onto a christmas card? End of story.

There are people who do this kind of back breaking work all day every day for a pittance. That is hard work. Which is it? Are the children/parents doing the "work of underpaid migrant workers" or not? Of course they're not working for the hours and low pay of the actual workers, but if they're doing it for the hour or so and they think that it's hard to do then it becomes a teachable moment about how some people do this all day long and at a much faster pace just so that they can feed their families so maybe think about that before you eat half an apple and toss the rest etc.

Except that you literally take all the low hanging fruit and leave the hard stuff for the workers - lol! These are the same people who send their kids on "service" trips to help little brown children for a week and of course, to work on their Spanish and their college essay.

Your contempt for the people who visit seems a bit misplaced. Why isn't this the employers' fault? I was at Great Country Farms last wkd, and there was a "Trump 2020" sticker on the back of the tractor that pulled our wagon out to the apple fields. Too late to turn back as I'd already paid admission.

Thank you for this. I have PERMANENTLY crossed this place off our list of places to go. We've been a couple of times over the years. Never again.

Nope. Not defensive at all. just seriously irritated at the thought that people can't still just enjoy a weekend in the country at a farm as a family without some jackass saying we aren't politically socially responsible, just so they can seem so. The "socially woke" one-upmanship is just a little grating at times.

Actually you can do it without taking any pics or videos. I have no social media presence, so this isn’t me at the orchard. Sounds like your issue is with social media not apple picking.

Yep - we picked everything when we were kids (apples, peaches, strawberries, tomatoes) and my mom would can or freeze or make jam. I take my daughter too because I want her to have the same experiences I did. We picked apples saturday and have already made a pie together. Next we will be making applesauce. I think these are great experiences with my daughter.
