Cost of Beforecare and Aftercare at schools

I’d also add that ITS is $299 if you’re a YMCA member.

Looking at the ITDS YMCA form right now.

YMCA Full Privilege Member:
Full time enrollment- (5days a week PD days and most breaks included. No federal Holidays.
Before care $75 (all grades, NO part-time option)
Aftercare full time: Prk-5th $299, 6th-8th $219, B&A Combo $370
Aftercare 3 days: Prk-5 $210, 6th-8th $160, b&acombo $250
Aftercare 2days: Prk-5 $160, non option for 6+, b&a combo $180 (this still allows for full time before care, but part time after)

NON YMCA MEMBERS OR "Program Only Members"
Before care $125 full time only.
After Care Full Time: Prk-5 $349, 6-8th $257, B&A $425 (Full time enrollment in after care includes PD days most breaks, no fed holidays)
After Care 3days: Prk-5 $240, 6-8th $185, B&A combo $300
After Care 2 days: Prk-5 $185, No 6+ option, A&b combo $240.

One time annual enrollment fee for NON Full Privilege YMCA Members: $62 for 1child, $114 2*or more children.

YMCA Membership seems to be about $100-140 a month depending on family size. You do get access to the YMCA and all it has to offer and discount on summer camps, classes etc.
If you don't plan to use the membership or their summer camps families with 1 child don't save anything.
2 or more children and you start to break even or get a head with the membership.
Families would have to run the numbers on costs of extras like swimming lesson, summer camps to see if it is worth the deal. With all the free and cheap dpr options and the location of the Ymca I am not sure it makes sense for smaller families.

There are also instructions on the form to pay a $50 registration fee. I am unclear if that is a typo and in the same thing as the 'one-time annual fee' if it is separate and in adtion too. Or if that is a different fee for families who wish to do drop in only.
I do not see any fees listed for drop in only costs or drop in days or or break camps. Though I am told this is possible to do. But without knowing these fees I can not be sure what it sht better deal.

don't hold me to it, but in the past when we've done drop in with the Y I believe it was around $30 for an afternoon (as a family who would be paying the full freight). about $10/hour if your kid was there until they closed.

FYI You can also be a member to the Silver Spring Y (about half the price) and still get the discounted rate.

What would be even more helpful is to add a column for how many spaces/likelihood to get in, and then have people comment on the quality. Not only price matters but how good is the aftercare?

Good is subjective. Agree on whether it’s easy to get a spot or not.

Added new column in yellow with number of slots and relative ease of getting a slot.

If you are adding number of slots. The YMCA at ITDS has spots for everyone /unlimited number of spot for aftercare no mater when you sign up. I am unsure if spots are unlimited for drop in pd and Break coverage for those not already enrolled full time.

Thanks! I will add this.

It's actually $120 per week for aftercare for 5 days.

I got a tip about Horace Mann. They have a lovely calculator if you can find it to figure out how much before and after care costs.

Are you ready for this?
$716/month for before and after care.
$641 for just aftercare.

Wow that is a lot!!

YMCA used to give DCPS teachers a discount on membership. That’s how my family was able to get a family membership. I think I pay 75 a month for all four of us. I would see if DC gov gets a discount too.

That's downright immoral.

There was an error with my account and it’s $61 per week and they now have B4 care for $20 per week.

This is almost discriminatory and hurts many socioeconomic levels. Parents might not send their kids to this school based on the cost of before/aftercare care. Are enrichment activities included? Is there a recreation center nearby or a church for before/after care programs?

How many parents turn down schools because of extended care?
