to the 0-4 poster: Did you consider The British School? It has a new campus and therefore is doubling its size next year and has rolling admissions. My child got in though he won't be going there. I was impressed; seems like a wonderful place.
Best of luck.

0 for 4: Have you considered St. John's? I know the first two years are very competetive, but the 4yo class (Tucker room) often does not fill.

I am very sorry for your situation and thank you for your thoughts about the impact of applying for financial aid on your results.

Since this is anonymous, would you be open to sharing your approximate HHI and your daughter's test scores to give a more complete overall picture?

We encountered similar results in applying to preschool programs in a neighborhood of NYC, so you have my empathy.

0 for 4 here. Our HHI (including DH bonus) is 178k. Test scores for dd were in the 90's. She's a good kid and she is really sweet. We constantly hear from her current teachers that if another child is upset in the classroom, my daughter is always the one to go over and give that child a toy or a hug. I just don't get it. We are an averge happy family, nothing special about us really. DH is from Europe, I'm a New Yorker. We work average jobs, honestly, so we can spend more time with each other and our daughter. When we were in NY, I earned a much higher salary working crazy hours for an ungrateful boss- so I took a paycut and lost my fancy title here in DC so I could actually spend time with my child.

All in all - I am really disappointed that we were left with no options. Maybe we should have applied to more schools, although 4 does sound like a lot to me (it was actually 5 but Holy Trinity said that they weren't accepting any new applicants). I really appreciate all of your suggestions and will research them all.

To the Mom of the child for Pre-K. Take a look at Franklin Montessori on Connecticut Avenue, it is a wonderful school. It is often the case that children who are denied admission in Pre-K are admitted in K. The schools really like someone who keeps trying, so I would suggest you try again. Please try to keep this in perspective your child is only 4 - things will work out I promise.
I have personal experience - two of my children were not accepted to the school they eventually went to in Pre K but were accepted in K.
Hang in there, it will be fine!

I'm so sorry for your situation; I'm also a bit distressed to find out that all admissions decisions are not "need blind" -- I'd assumed they were, extrpolating from my college experience, I suppose.

Your daughter sounds like a wonderful child, and someone who I would def. want my daughter to have as a friend or role model (DD is 15 mos. so probably a bit too young for playdates, if she were older, I would certainly issue an invitation.) It's clear that you and DH have done a great job as parents. Wherever she ends up (and you *will* find something that suits) her classmates will be the better for having the opportunity to know her.

Take care.

I am very disappointed..

Maret and GDS waitlisted for K
Sidwell and St. Pats rejected...

Test scores in 98 percentile, I don't know what went wrong...

what schools are taking late applications???

Help please

PP - we are in a similar situation. We thought DC's 96th percentile score would get DC in somewhere. I feel your pain!
Anonymous
Our DC scored inteh 99.9th percentile on the WPPSI, and we are 0 for 3. Rejected at Sidwell. Waitlisted at Beavoir and NPS. Applied to Pre-K. Does anyone get rejected from Beauvoir or is everone either accepted or waitlisted?
Anonymous
PP - wow, I'm really surprised. I can't understand something like that. Judging from the comments on this forum, it does indeed seem that lots and lots of people are waitlisted at Beauvoir.

0 for 4 -- If you're willing to drive to Potomac, there's a truly lovely school called St. Francis that is merging with St. Andrew's that probably will have some extra capacity because of the merger. It is a great school with super nice kids and families. It truly sounds as though your sweet, bright daughter would thrive there. It has the nicest people -- kids, teachers, families. The kids get a great deal of individual attention because of small class sizes and the academic program is very very good. I would definitely consider it especially since you'd be doing the reverse commute. Check it out and call to see if they still have any spaces www.sfeds.org
