We are from out of town and got our children into NCRC and Georgetown Day School. I offered to volunteer with anything the schools need (which is what I do where we live now) and both children are very sweet. I think it helped that both schools were great matches with our current schools, family values, philosophy, etc. and also that I made it very clear that we would give of ourselves to the school community. I also found both of those schools to be very accommodating to families from out of town, which I appreciated. I hope that helps.

Just happened upon this...3.5 year old is in a preschool in Georgetown. We used to live there- loved the neighborhood always figured we'd move back when we found a home we liked. After reading all these posts I think a North Arlington home (with walking vicinty to clarendon) may be in my future due to the great public schools from prek-high school. Don't want to deal with this hassle for him and younger sibling...and imagine what I could do with an extra $30-60k/year for 12 years?!

It is heartbreaking to read some of your posts. I seriously wish all of you the best and I hope you do realize that none of this has anything to do with your children. I am sure they will blossom whereever they end up. I just am not one that believes there is a 'best' school. My husband came out of a high school in the Midwest where only about 5% of the population went to a 4-year college. He scored a perfect SAT score and went onto Ivy League. He was fortunate to have a great public HS counselor that told him that no way with his grades/scores should he settle for state like his mom wanted. Truthfully-- it sometimes better to be the big fish in the little pond--- so many Universities have their quotas of how many they will accept from certain secondary schools. I know I would not be able to stand the politics and kiss-ass culture of the admission process at alot of the private schools in this area and I'm sure I'd tell somebody off in admissions in the process.
