Girls DA/ECNL in VA: who will survive?

Yeah ok. Name changed. Very little else will change. MU/Spirit just completed an entire season. There simply isn't enough talent to go around to make MU very good.

Spirit 2005 wasn’t exactly a weak team and improved as the season went on. Let’s wait and see how things go next year before making judgments

Say what you want about McLean 05 but to go from the bottom of MA to 2nd place after losing 1/3 or more of the team is impressive. Also, you need to acknowledge that the team finished as a finalist at the Jefferson Cup Champions Division losing a close match to MRM Rush in the finals. The is heading to ECNL nationals. I am not an MYS ECNL parent but have watched the team play. They play great soccer which is a result of great training.

TSJ/FCV will survive and will gobble up some more players and clubs. How many, not sure ... but they have to in order to keep that monstrousity in business. I still see SYC, MU, BRYC, and possibly Arlington as potential targets. Yes, this is an opinion, not some insider info. This would consolidate big player pools and DA clubs into one "super nova" DA club. This club could then compete with the TopHats, PDAs and SD Surf's and would be a monopoly in an IMG-style, expensive program for uber-elite players in nova. Those parents would drive their kids for this. I mean, its closer than Bradenton, FL.

I suppose DA will survive simply as it is backed by USSF. Maybe some consolidation (which would be a good thing).

As long as DA is around, ECNL will continue to weaken in quality but gain ground in breadth and quantity. Not sure what this will end up meaning for the CCLs/NCSLs/EDPs of the world ... but l could see EDP and ECNL aligning at some point to counter the DA effect of limited choices and anti-competition and to keep the CCLs/NCSLs of the world in their lower tier place.


Clubs: McLean and Loudoun will survive and be ECNL, as will VDA. They are simply the best non-DA top-tier clubs with good sized player pools for their locale. Again, I think BRYC and MU's days are numbered as ECNL and DA clubs respectively. Beyond 2020, don't see these persisting (BRYC will remain, but not as ECNL). Arlington is strong enough to keep DA, but might be tempted to sell to TSJ-FDV in next few years. We shall see ...

Here is the reality. As soon as something like this happened US Soccer would grant *pick your club* a new DA franchise. We live in a wealthy area with enough parents to pay the fees to keep the train going. No consolidation. FCV is moving to Springfield because they were too crowded in Loudoun county and CZ did not have the funds to compete with the big well financed clubs. Now the geography makes more sense. The Springfield area was underserved and LoCo had too many teams.

Actually they lost 9 of the 18, all starters. 3 to Arlington, 2 to FCV, 4 to Spirit/MU.

For next season, they are picking up 2 quality players that were offered FCV da spots but turned them down. They are a bit raw, but under Clyde will turn into really great players.
