MS magnet selection committee racial make up NOT REPRESENTATIVE

Now that's the outrage !

Sounds like the test has an unfair cultural bias.

Yes. It seems to test for Intelligence and Knowledge. Speed and Accuracy is also a factor in doing well. They should take at least 50% of students who are performing below grade, and 50% of students whp are performing above grades. The knowledge will flow out in vapor-form from overly intelligent students and get soaked in the brains of less-intelligent students. Eventually, all intelligence and brilliance will be the same in all students.

Next, we should do the same things to distribute beauty equally among all students. Beauty bias has been proven in many experiments. We must check and see if less beautiful students are also low achievers...

The racial makeup of the selection committee is 100% in MCPS's control. These people are appointed.

MCPS has no control over which students perform better than others on achievement and cognitive tests and grades.

You mean it doesn't fit your narrative and agenda.

Possibly. It would be easy to determine if they hadn’t quit publishing that information. I wonder why they did that.

This isn't enough information for you?

https://montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/sharedaccountability/reports/2019/Enriched%20and%20Accelerated%2028Jan2019%20FINAL.pdf

Posted by a PP who cited the report to show that they are admitting unqualified students.

The data in this report although interesting doesn’t show that standards have declined. It doesn’t provide details comparing current with past years. You’re making assumptions for which you have no supporting evidence.

Exactly this is just wacky conspiracy theory by people with an agenda

Yes - the agenda and narrative of rewarding merit and meeting the needs of all students. High performing students need the rigor of magnets, low performing students need remedial courses and support. MCPS should first try and get the URMs to be at least on "grade level" without lowering the criteria, and then look at the magnet program which is very small in the whole scheme of things.

Is low achievement a matter of genetics and can't be helped?

Nope, it's primarily a matter of parenting.

How many Asians and Asian Americans are clamoring to work in the education field, especially in public schools, thus would be working at MCPS magnet programs to be part of the selection committee? Come on, you’re wanting them to get into STEM magnet so then they can get a traditional STEM job (because magnet science teacher might not live up to family expectations).

We just moved our kid to Nysmith for next year. Might move house too. No reason to stay here for the schools.

I never know how to respond to those posts either. Do the people who post them, except us to say, "Come back, Shane!" or "All is forgiven, come home!" or "We're not worthy!" or...?

Too many smart and hard-working kids move away and the school suffers. Sorry but it’s just a fact. NP btw

That sounds like an opinion rather than a fact.

The county is better off without the people who are part of the problem.
