How many weeks of vacation do you get?

Federal contractor - 15 days of PTO to start. Tops out at 20 days after 5 years. Use or lose after March of the next year, so there is no long term banking of leave. It makes the accountants happy to not have that liability.
Of course, upper management gets their own rules.

I agree with others that I think this is a really good negotiating point OP. Since you have experience and it sounds like your husband is likely not at a low paying job, maybe just use that as your chip when you get an offer instead of a little more salary. I agree that is a big bummer. I'm a fed and have similar to the others feds so not going to repeat...

First year at a nonprofit doing comms. We get 20 PTO days per year. I actually don't know if sick time is part of that or separate - should find out...

I used to be a lawyer at BigLaw and we got five weeks per year. I think I was the only person who used them all. Relatedly, I did not last long in BigLaw.

I'm exempt staff at a university. In a year we get 22 days of annual leave, 15 days of sick leave, 3 days of personal leave, and 14 days of holiday leave.

my dad used to say only losers used PTO. My dad only missed work when he was really sick. I don't think we ever went to the beach with him, because he hated taking time home. My dad might call me a loser cause I do take PTO time.

Started at 3 weeks + 2 weeks sick + 3 "personal days" per year (never quite understood why those were different than vacation)

- week at Christmas
- week for spring break
- two weeks in the summer

Personal days are for appointments, banking, mental health day etc. Basically one day here or there, but you are staying in the area.

sorry - that must have been very hard for you to grow up with. i hope he was able to spend some time enjoying the fruits of his labor later in life.

you are not a loser for using pto. you are a normal human being. i hope you know that.

Earn up to 6 weeks per year, plus can accumulate 6 weeks of sick time. I could never use it all, but it's nice that it's there.

This is me. 6 weeks vacation. There’s also sick leave, accrued separately. This is a job where you are “on” all the time, so there’s no expectation to take an hour of leave here and there for a doctor/dentist appt. So I only use vacation leave for actual vacation, and sick leave for when I’m home with my younger child and can’t get work done.

I’ve also worked at a small law firm with “unlimited” leave. You get screwed bc you can’t accrue anything for when you leave. There’s a separate parental leave policy with paid leave.

When you left the small firm with “unlimited” leave, did you use that when you negotiated your next job?

Nonprofit. 4 weeks PTO, 2 weeks sick. PLUS all federal holidays (2 extra weeks), and one week around the winter holidays. All paid.

I have small kids and use all the PTO, usually, and most of the sick time. I love vacations.
