Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
I would disagree. Just look at this thread. Many people in Montgomery County would support such a change. |
| Excellent idea! |
I don't think DCUM is a good guage of how the whole county feels. BTW, I think converting all the bathrooms to gender neutral is nuts, but I would support adding gn single use stalls. |
| Just heard on the radio. It’s aboit coed bathrooms not single occupancy ones |
| I assume the majority of the bathroom would still for one gender or the other? |
Yes, my son just participated in MCPS bathroom survey. The idea is to create SOME all-gender bathrooms in addition to the gendered ones. Same as the university I work at. |
|
I would have been much more into it before this week, when my kid was assaulted by a pack of kids mimicking masturbation.
Since then, I've decided that boys need their own bathrooms and I don't want them the hell near my daughter |
This. It’s about having co-ed bathrooms. Not individual single occupancy ones. There is no way MCPS would be able to fund new single occupancy restrooms. |
Can you tell us what grade your son is in? I hope they do a survey with MS and ES parents, and not just the kids. I certainly don't want MCPS switching to All-Gender Bathrooms based on the enthusiastic endorsement of my 16 year old nephew. Nice kid, but lots of hormones that may influence his decisions. |
| The problem with single-occupancy bathrooms is that they're hard to access if there's a problem. Which, in schools, is a virtual certainty. Unless you modify the door so it can be easily jimmied open from the outside. All it takes is one little kid locking the door and then forgetting how to work the knob or not being able to grip it correctly (I've seen this happen) and panicking and no one can get in to help. Or a student with special needs eloping and locking themselves in and then staff can't find them. Or what happened at Lee MS a few years ago. At our own school, a teacher became trapped in a bathroom when the lock broke off in the door and it took 2 hours for maintenance to smash the door enough to get him out. Imagine if it had been a student? |
| I wonder what real issue they’re trying to distract us from, by announcing this today? |
Probably some bad academic results soon. |
| So what if academics went down the tube we have coed bathrooms ! |
| Superintendent sees no issue with coed bathrooms in schools https://twitter.com/wmalnews/status/1108804513236959232?s=21 |
Wow. Thanks for posting. It works in Asia, so it should be good here also. Floor to ceiling panels and common sinks. What could possibly go wrong? And why not spend money on this when my kid's Focus school doesn't even have the money to take the kids on more than one field trip a year.
