Balanced? Not in the slightest. |
I think that the HBO show, if anything, adds much more context to Hae herself. I found that Serial focused on the crime itself more than the people caught up in it. I think that Hae has largely been forgotten due to the hullabaloo about the case developments. I think HBO did a good job of bringing her to the forefront. |
But this is most likely due to backlash, response to Serial and Undisclosed. However, the show doesn't at all give Hae's real side because there is no one from her family involved. Hae's family in fact agrees with the conviction. |
This, and Jay's junk testimony is why he deserves a new trial. I think Jay's testimony should be disregarded all together. |
Yes! I remember hearing the Jay interview tapes on Undisclosed (I believe it was) and the knocking/tapping sounds the detectives made when Jay started saying something that was incorrect or contradictory to a previous statement. Anyway, now that the highest MD court has denied a new trial, can they take it higher? Is that an option? |
I think the Supreme Court is the last option at this point. |
If SCOTUS grants cert on this I'll eat my hat. |
If you listen to Undisclosed it becomes clear that all the things Jay "knew" were not necessarily information he came up with on his own. |
FYI Hae had a diary on a floppy disk that was found in her car and never investigated. We don't know what was on that and it's missing. She started writing her more private information on that after her brother read her paper diary. |
| Did you all watch last night? |
| It's interesting to see how people age over 20 years. Jennifer looks like she's had a tough life. |
|
Agree Jennifer P looks rough. Honestly I thought she looked high.
I think this documentary is puzzling - as I watch I keep wondering what someone who has no idea about this case might think. IT jumps around, from the original story, to the PCR hearing of a couple of years ago, to various elements of the past, to people today trying to remember back - I am not certain they are telling a coherent story? Honestly if I Didn't know the story fairly well, I'm not sure what I'd take away? I was only partially watching, so I missed some of the end. But I thought last night made Adnan look guilty. Sure, the devil is in the details, and we know the details of Jen and Jay's stories don't match. But in the broadest possible terms, you have two witnesses who were involved the night of Hae's murder. Jay helped Adnan bury the body, and Jen helps Jay go back and look at the shovels. On the surface, two people who are witnesses seems like a strong case, no? But then from Undisclosed I know there are all sorts of problems with their testimony. I don't know. I wish this case would resolve and I never had to think about it again, tbh. |
|
I didn't watch last night but did watch the first ep and follow the case pretty closely.
I HATED the first ep. I agree with pp it jumped around a ton, the drawings were incredibly distracting, etc. The only interesting part to me was the additional insight into Adnan's family. I honestly still don't know who did it. |
First episode and 2nd were night and day. The first one focused more on their personal lives, perhaps in response to little information about Hae. The second was much more technical and case testimony driven which was more interesting. |
| So I might be the only person who never got on the serial train. I lives abroad when it came out and didn't pay attention, then when I got home it seemed like it was "over" so I didn't bother listening bc ever seemed to have already discussed it all. Worth watching? I actually have little backstory knowledge even..murder of teen, trial and conviction that seems fishy. |
