How much did you pay for a pool membership in North Arlington?

Good luck with that. You can't sell DH memberships unless you sell your house. Let's see how you get this past the board.

Thanks! Yep, there are certain ways around it. Happy to discuss further with anyone seriously interested in purchasing the membership to the pool. Current waitlist is ~10 years and the other alternatives (Like Army Navy Country Club) are ~$700/month.

We bought our current home in MoCo in part because it gave us access to the neighborhood pool (which has no waitlist for our zipcode and costs about $600 to join and $600 per year for a family). These descriptions of the pool situation in many parts of NoVa sound pretty grim.

It sounds terrible because everyone wants a 5 min drive to pool. There are a bunch of pools in McLean and Fairfax just 10 minutes away. But most suburban families have that much drive for almost anything and don’t think anything of it — Arlingtons are just used to short drives.

It's actually not so bad. While we were on a waitlist in Arlington we joined a pool in McLean about 10 min away. By the time the kids were biking age, we finally got into our neighborhood pool and they walk/ride there with their friends. Lovely summer days.

Ahh, McCrazy. Are they letting you sell you membership now that you've been kicked out for your behavior?

Is there any movement to bring public pools back to Arlington or Alexandria, rather than continuing this private pool culture?

Bring it up with local gov't.

Tax private pools and use the $ to build a public pool.

It is a very nice club, especially if you like tennis

Overlee is similar.

Maybe it’s changed, but when I bought a home in south Arlington 10 years ago I looked up getting on the waitlist of Overlee ( i think). I wasn’t allowed to sign up, because my address wasn’t acceptable. I lived near Nauck at the time.
Serisouly.

Overlee is open to all of Arlington (plus Falls Church and McLean), so that wasn’t the one you’re thinking of.

I live in 22205 and am white and was not allowed on the wait list about 12 years ago. They said the list was too long. We joined Tuckahoe in McLean and haven't regretted it. Such a nice year round facility.

I joined the waitlists for many pools when we lived in 22203 in August 2014. We moved to 22205, joined another pool in 2019, and got our Overlee offer in March 2023. We declined.

Arlington has public pools -- the pool at Upton Hills and the pools at the high schools and the new aquatic center.

We never joined a private pool. We were busy during the week at work/camps (which often had pool time) and they didn't often want to go to the pool on the weekends but if they did we went to Upton Hill. They took swim lessons at the W-L pool.

No. Arlington has public pools, they are not outdoors. If we don’t have land to build new schools, where do you suggest we put the pool?

Upton Hill is outdoors. The Nova parks pool pass is a great deal. When my kids were in preschool and I was SAHM we made a summer adventure of visiting all the Nova parks pools covered by the pass. Cameron Run is a favorite and kind of expensive if you just buy the day pass. After a few years of that a friend encouraged us to join Knights of Columbus for the summer (where she went) and we tried that but my kids missed the fun play features, slides, etc. at the Nova waterparks. And the friend who'd encouraged us to do KoC rarely was able to coordinate schedules to meet up there. So went back to our annual pass.
