I don’t want my kids in their car. Reasonable?

Anonymous
Well, the truth is that driving should make most of us more nervous than it does. I think OP’s focus on car safety ratings is strange — the grandparents’ driving capabilities would be the more relevant issue to me. But if I start thinking to bad about all the crazy, wreckless drivers out there, I can appreciate OP’s anxiety.

Really? For how long? It's impossible that a 17yo has never been in a car with a driver other than their parents....right??!!

No, we didn’t do carpool. Why would we? We, the parents drove them where they needed to go.

Wow, this is unusual. You ask "why would we?" There are a million reasons! One of the many: did your kids never get invited anywhere with anyone?

Play dates: we dropped them off and picked them up. They didn’t go anywhere overnight.

No riding with friends? Drive them on their dates?

OP do you doubt your parents driving ? That’s a realistic fear. And very difficult to say to them. I’ve know several people who are crazy drivers and I don’t want them driving my kids.

No, they don’t ride with friends. teens are the worst drivers. You let your kid drive with a teen????
Dates: they meet up so where’s local where they can get themselves.

I know who you are!! And FYI — your kids did so much you never knew about.

Tell them your kids get easily car sick & they should bring at least 5 - 6 full size garbage bags with them, as well as enough room to store them once they're through (we can't stop every time they throw up, better to just store them in the car with you).

We'll see if they're so keen on having them after that.

Hah, yeah I had a bunch of unapproved car rides during band practice in high school.

And the rides were hardly the worst part...

Right?? lol
She's either messed them up with her unreasonable paranoia that they're just as paranoid as she is, or they're definitely placating her by telling her what she wants to hear & then driving wherever they want with whomever they want.

Why do you think her little genius wanted to go off to college so early?? So he could live like a REAL teenager & stop missing out on everything.

I feel so sorry for those kids... some of the greatest bonding moments our kids had were in carpool!

And I love how she (or someone) keeps saying “why is this strange”? You REALLY don’t see why this is strange?!? 99% of kids and parents participate in carpools and drive other kids around. And yet you think what YOU are doing is normal?

Safety rating? How would you even know where to find this info. Do you work? Sounds like you could use a job or something else to think about.

Can I ask what nationality you are?
How would you feel if, like OPs parents, your kids did not let their children ride with you as the driver?
