BMW x7 is a bust for families

This is why we bought a mazda5. You can walk through the captains chairs to access third row. We could afford to buy a super fancy SUV but we love our mazda5!!!

I own an X7 and my kids get through the middle row with the arm rests up and down just fine. Works very well for a family. Suburban/Escalade/Navigator are much too big for my liking but if the X7 or GLS are not big enough for you, you should get one of those SUVs.

Volvo is fine they have an easy to slide seat even with babay seat

We tried them all. Ford Expedition is the best you can do for realistic space; still much shorter than a Suburban.

What you are describing is very much a first world problem. You can just buy it and live with it. You will get used to it.

Plan where everybody sits based on order of dropoff or pickup. We do this and it is quick and efficient.

anyone considering buying this car realizes it is a first world problem. It's just that we have choices and it's disappointing that you can't get to the third row from the second row. I have a bmw x5 with a third row currently. I am well aware of kids climbing over the seat...trying to squeeze into the third row by moving second row up ( with car seats) and entering and exiting through the trunk. It sucks! This is why moms like captain's chairs! we want easy and fast and we don't want muddy footprints on the second row seats. other car companies seem to understand that this is what families want. I'm disappointed that BMW does not have this option. I'm going to be ok though! I will just move on to another car.

It is just that Americans are stupid and susceptible to marketing and on top of that whine about pretty simple things like making their kids climb over a seat.

You don't even see BWM or Porsche SUV's in Germany but both companies are glad to cash in on Americans stupidity.

Just get a damn Minivan and drop the pretentiousness. The performance of a BWM is completely wasted sitting in traffic around here - if you want people to know that you are wealthy pass around your pay slip but most people don't care.

I take it you've never been to Germany outside a US military base. X5s and Cayennes are all over the place.

+1. Land Cruisers are generally known as the most reliable vehicles in the world. Whether this is still true is debated, but they are hardly known for poor engineering.

I’m not the earlier poster but I assume that if there are car seats involved there is no easy way to get into the third row. Hence wanting captains chairs.

We have two cars seats installed in the 2/3 bench of our pilot (both Diono narrow) and the kids have no trouble pressing the button to electronically lower the 1/3 portion and climb in, and I can easily get back there to help them too

Seems silly to give up a seat for captains chairs if you have 3 kids, and if you only have 2 why are you using 3rd row?

Toyota Land Cruisers are a thing of beauty and engineering; it costs about the same as the x7. I have no idea why you wouldn’t just get the LC.

Land Rovers were never reliable and are now owned by Tata so quality has likely declined further.

Agree. I'm about to purchase my third minivan. The first I didn't hesitate on because the kids were so little. For the 2nd van, I looked at/drove every conceivable minivan alternative until I just gave up and got another van because I wasn't willing to sacrifice interior space and a suburban won't fit in my garage. I'm now facing the same decision again, went out and drove a bunch of other options and what it boils down to is that my family will be most comfortable in another van. And my vanity comes secondary to that. And not parking in my garage is a deal-breaker for me.
