Please substantiate this assertion; otherwise, one can only assume this is an anti-Muslim slur (likely from a Republican). |
The candidate "apologized." He appears to have spent all his "community organizing" (he calls himself a community organizer rather than an activist.) He said that giving money to Israel is worse than giving money to the KKK among other anti-Israel comments. He led a boycott HP movement because HP did business with Israel. He supports BDS. It appears that he spent much of his college years in activism against Israel. You can say these comments are not anti-semetic, but they are troubling. What troubles me most? He protested with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and has said that he is still alive so that he can "avenge" the deaths of the protesters there. Do you really think that his focus is going to be helping Virginians? https://bigleaguepolitics.com/virginia-democrat-delegate-candidate-said-israel-is-worse-than-kkk-told-ariel-sharon-to-burn-in-hell/ His donors are also troubling. Two are linked to a group that provided financial support to Hamas. |
His priorities seem to be healthcare, transportation, and education. Pretty sure a state senate seat won’t involve much foreign policy work. Hard to disagree with the notion that Ariel Sharon should burn in hell, although he also said Arab dictators deserved the same fate. |
Those are words on his website. His political activities up to this time have been focused on anti-Israel protests. And, on his fundraising--he put out a tweet about his dental patients--and said that some procedures were too expensive for them. He then said that if we wish to help his patients to give money to his campaign. Problem: he practices in the District of Columbia. He's running in Northern Virginia. And, his statement about avenging the deaths of the protesters in Egypt was posted in August 2018, You don't find that troubling. NO. He's made it clear from his activism that his focus is on Palestine. Virginia does millions and millions of business with Israel. Do we really want a BDS person who advocates boycotting Israel in the House of Delegates? |
I find the premise in your posts that we should elect candidates to state and local offices based on their fealty (or lack thereof) to the State of Israel more troubling than anything this candidate has said to date regarding international affairs. There’s no shortage of other people in DC looking after Israel’s interests. What I care about is whether he’d look after those in the 86th District. |
Visiting the holocaust museum should be a graduation requirement for every student in the DC/MD/VA region. |
And, you think someone who has focused on protesting against Israel and organizing boycotts is focused on Virginia #86? It is very clear from almost everything he has said that his focus is on Palestine. Did you read his words? It doesn't concern you that he went to Egypt and protested with the Muslim Brotherhood and that he sees his purpose as avenging the deaths of the protesters there? That wasn't written long ago--he wrote that in August 2018. |
He somehow managed to graduate and become a doctor (dentist) so he seems like a young man who is on top of things. The fact that he’s expressed views about Palestinian issues doesn’t mean it’s his sole or primary “focus.” Take your Muslim-bashing somewhere else. I am so sick of people who go try to sabotage the lives of anyone who isn’t a shill for Israel. |
Actually, ALL Virginia state politicians need to be required to visit the Holocaust Museum and the African American History Museum in order to serve, all the way up to governor. |
He sounds like an anti semite. |
This isn't about Israel. It is about a young man whose focus has been protesting against Israel and has protested in Egypt with the Muslim Brotherhood. He has vowed vengeance against those who killed the protesters. Do your really think his focus will be on Virginians? |
| Ryan McElveen doesn't qualify for any position, he wants to be a career politician, he knows a few tricks, like leaking school closure info on Twitter to get young kids to follow him, thus gain social popularity. He is so ambitious to the point it is unhealthy. He likes to have lots of power because he actually has very low self-esteem. |
Neither Republicans nor Jews come out ahead when they slander Democratic candidates who are Muslim-Americans. Younger voters, in particular, see right through this nonsense. |
It is not slander when it is true. He made the statements. He said giving money to Israel is worse than giving money to the KKK. He protested with the Muslim Brotherhood and said he is alive so that he can "avenge" the deaths of the protesters. Several of his donors have troubling connections. His father has troubling connections. Sounds like an extremist to me. |
Another Republican griping when they are fielding a weak candidate who doesn't connect with voters and stands for nothing other than cutting taxes... |
