How many pairs of shoes does your toddler have?

Anonymous
My boy always only had one or two at that age. My girl had more partly because we would get hand-me-downs and partly because she loved shoes from an early age.

My 5 year old has 2 pairs at anytime.. one pair of sneakers and one pair of rain/snow boots or crocs for summer. The only reason I would buy a 3rd pair (dressy shoe) is if he needed to go to a formal wedding which has not happened yet.
For me, I have 5-6 pairs pairs in rotation - ballets, boots, dressy boots, sandals, dressy sandals, pumps. But my feet are no longer growing and my shoes last a long time

It's really better to have at least two pair that you wear alternately, even for little kids. And for those of your letting your kid wear ONE pair of shoes day after day after day...and then passing them down...shame on you. Buy your younger kid new shoes. Save money elsewhere.

+1 shoes need to breathe and dry out between wearings.

8-10?
2 winter sneakers
2 warm winter boots (one stud at preschool)
1 indoor ballet flats for dress up
2 lighter boots (1 leather and 1 rain)
Slippers

And another 5 she outgrew but I can’t bear to get rid of yet.
It’s more fun to shop for her than for me anyway. Only one pot of winter boot and winter sneakers were pricey. The rest were $20 from stride rite sales or similar.

I try, but my kid gets on shoe kicks and wants to wear the same ones every day for weeks or months. I pick my battles, though she does wear mary janes, so they're pretty open. Whatever, her shoes don't smell and she's never been in a size long enough to wear out the shoe.

Which is fine...but don't then pass the shoes she has worn every day for months to your next kid.

2.5 year old DD has 3 pairs of hand-me-down sneakers, one pair of hand-me-down rain/snow boots, one new pair of dressier mary janes, and one new pair of sandals.

To all the parents whose kids have only one pair of sneakers and one pair of seasonal shoes (snow boots, water shoes), does that mean your kid wears the same shoes every or almost every day? I thought it was healthy for feet to switch shoes every day?

At any given time, my DD has two pairs of everyday shoes (right now, slip ons & high top sneakers), a pair of sturdy mary janes that can be dressed up or worn to the playground, and seasonal shoes so right now, winter boots. She might also have an extra pair that was part of a costume, but this Halloween, I got her cute high tops that have become her everyday shoes.

Which mary janes are these, if you don't mind sharing?

Hmm. My 20 month old has 10 pairs that come to mind without checking her room. They all get plenty of use but she tends to wear her mary janes the most. They all have supportive non-slip soles so she wears them to the playground if her outfit calls for them. (Yes, I did just say that.)

Specific shoes: Snow boots, Hunters, pink suede ankle boots, black ankle boots, pink gym sneakers, black patent leather “bunny ear” MJs, navy leather MJs, yellow patent leather MJs, pink patent leather t straps and warm slippers.

She has fewer shoes in the summer: brown leather sandals, jellies and navy Cienta t straps basically go with everything for summer.

Not quoted PP, but Livie and Luca make sturdy mary janes — they are expensive if you don’t catch a sale but they resell well!

2yo DD has 2 right now, sneakers (which are silver Old Soles brand and look decent with a dress on tge rare occasion she wears one) and rain boots that work in snow, too. She's barefoot/in socks indoors so she spends more time without shoes on than with shoes.

Last summer/spring it was similar sneakers and a pair of natives.

At 2, I can't remember, but at 4 she has a pair of ballet flats, sneakers, sandals, tall boots, rain boots and snow boots.

Why does it matter as long as the shoes aren’t wet and don’t smell? My kids basically wear the same shoes everyday but if they’ll be in wet, dirty, muddy conditions they wear appropriate boots that are then cleaned and left to air out. But most of the time it’s the same sneakers day after day. Who cares?
