*** Granted, I just tried my own address and it said no election data found, so it looks like the special election isn't loaded in their system yet. |
Have other people seen the document circulating about Rhonda Henderson's campaign contributions, which are substantial? Some locals in Ward 4 have been passing out the info. An enormous amount of money is being poured into her campaign from CONSTRUCTION and DEVELOPERS! Thousands of Dollars! She is even being given money from LIQUOR companies. And she is taking dark money from PACs and DFER. Am I crazy that I didn't know that even in a super-local school board election there could be this type of corporate money flooding a candidate. This woman is in the pocket of rich developers fighting for the contracts to build new charter schools.
The document, which I can't attach on here, explains that many of the maxed out individual contributors come from construction owners, outside developers, charter school executives, and even Brandon Todd's staff. Just takes some googling. Her report for election finance is below: https://efiling.ocf.dc.gov/ReportSummaries/Download/16840/Donor/PCCSD4187087_October10thReport_2018_Amendment1_Contributions_Donor.pdf |
Exactly - just like Muriel who magically moved from a modest North Michigan Park home to a million dollar plus home on the Gold Coast despite only making 200k annually. She, and her successor Tood, are bought and paid for by developer $$$. Not surprising that the candidates they support are also corrupt. |
Definitely O'Leary! Not bought like Henderson; not an advocate of the current testing focus like Ryan; and the other candidate...can't find much on her.
I'll take passion and experience on the ground (the latter is a bit lacking at the policy level in DC) any day! |
I've noticed this up and down the ballot, from ANC races to Council. The story of 2018 is that Bowser tried to institute "machine" style politics, she raised millions of dollars and basically had nowhere to spend it. So she instructed her big donors to help out her hand-picked candidates down the ballot. I doubt that the construction industry or liquor lobbyists care who's on the School Board. But they do have substantial business before the city and need to maintain good relations with the Mayor. |
This is incorrect, and it's all a matter of public record. She bought a $125K house in 2000, which is currently worth ~$500K and appears to be currently rented out at market rate. She bought a house in Colonial Village for $832K that appears to be partially financed by a mortgage and the loan against that first house. Look it up yourself. You can say that she's in the pocket of whomever you think - but $200K a year salary is plenty to afford that house, especially when you consider what she could have saved up living modestly in Riggs Park for so long. So don't make false accusations when the facts are so easily publicly available. |
Um, did you read this? She got $200 from a liquor store. I don't see that as the sign of graft - I would guess it's a tax writeoff for a friend who owns a business. 200 bucks. C'mon. And the "enormous amount of money" amounts to $16K in that report. I don't think that's an unreasonable amount for someone to raise from their professional and personal networks. |
Don't make claims about candidates that are unsubstantiated or untrue please. There is nothing to back what you are saying - in fact quite the opposite if you've attended any of the forums. You can support O'Leary, but don't lie about other people. I'm starting to think O'Leary's very pushy son is posting anonymously on here. I've ran into him more than once and I just have a hunch. For anyone interested, I just returned from the Ward 4 Democrats debate. I went in supporting Elani who has a son at the same school as mine, but left supporting Ryan. He did not have a "current testing focus" like was said - it was the opposite and a similar position to what O'Leary takes. More importantly, Ryan was the only person who actually knew the current events in DC legislation and our schools. The other candidates had no idea how the Roosevelt HS principal created a scandal and why the music teacher at Shepherd Elementary was fired. He explained both situations to the audience because no one else could. Someone even yelled out to him "THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING IT!" after he answered. He was very clear and knew his stuff. I like that he has worked in both regular and charter schools. I like that he has been a principal. I was extremely impressed. I feel strongly enough that I plan to post on the listservs about it too. I LOVED the question about how many SBOE meetings have you attended since starting this campaign!! Again, everyone said "one" except for Ryan who has apparently attended all of them and testified for the board twice. Elani said she has kids and that's why she can't attend the meetings. Oy vey! I felt bad. |
Why was the music teacher at shepherd fired? My son is going there next year. Thanks |
There was a long thread here when it happened--he is accused of assault. Painful for many in the Shepherd community. |
Accused of sexual assault of another woman (not related to any student). Thought it’s important to clarify that. May I ask, why would that be considered painful by the community? I don’t know if that’s the best word to describe the feeling. |
PP here. Many kids liked him, and parents found themselves having to address the news story with their kids after they heard about it from the news, from older sibs, etc. |
Of course. I wouldn’t use the word painful. Maybe save that adjective for the alleged victim. |
Shepherd issues aside, did anyone have any aha moments from the forum last night? I thought it was kind of uninteresting.
Everyone supports LGBTQ students, says they’ll engage parents, care deeply about children and education. Great. So what? |
