Of course that will be the focus of the DME. And the chancellor.

Until at least 50% of students are not economically disadvantaged, don't expect that emphasis to change.

chicken and egg problem

don't expect middle class families to embrace public schools until you start catering to their needs

Look at the Wilson Pyramid that's possible because the schools embraced the needs of all students poor, average, and advanced

LMAO at this.

I noticed that too so much for trying for more integration and neighborhood schools. At least he's honest DCPS needs to focus on the kids that need the most help. If your kid doesn't need help they are going to most likely be better served in a charter or private.

The mission of public schools is to serve "all" kids. The focus on just one segment is one reason why charters have become so popular.

yup good luck getting middle class and higher families embracing public schools with this clown

DCPS doesn't give a damn about getting high SES families to embrace public schools, or that school leaders send their own children to them. They care about ensuring that almost all low SES kids can test proficient to save face. Period.

lolz they actually care about rising test scores... having more middle and upper class kids would increase test scores faster.... no surprise that DCPS is too dumb to figure this out

I find it pretty disgusting that Bowser turns to McKinsey Consulting to find someone to lead our public schools. I guess she is aiming for a job with them once she is done being mayor. I have seen McKinsey folks come into nonprofit/public sector leadership positions and they are a DISASTER as they try to apply their business/money-making metrics and tactics to mission-oriented, non-money making systems. As usual, All of us DC residents with kids in the public schools will be screwed.

He seems all wrong. Private school guy who knows about DC schools as theory. Bowser makes all of the wrong decisions when in comes to Education.

Why not the selected individual the benefit of the doubt first?

I don't begrudge the president or very public figures sending their children to schools which have great experience dealing with security and a design at least somewhat cognizant of security needs.

But the children of the DC DME do not qualify under that.

I LOVE this attitude. This is exactly the problem with DCPS-trying to be all things to all people, and WHY parents and children like charters. Being all things to all people waters down the program for everyone. Mediocrity is served up everyday. DCPS should offer more specialized offerings. I do hope he expands his mindset of hardest to serve. This is not only low-SES, as so often is the focus in DC. All students are deserve excellence and its hard to serve them that, so tailor the offerings, whether addressing a community with low-SES constraints, or offering a school with tech or arts or language. Choices and excellence would serve DC public school students so much better than the current one size fits all warmed over offerings. - a teacher

The DME has no power, it’s a figurehead position.

Well we need a DME in place to approve a new chancellor’s placing his or her kids into a Wilson feeder.

The ones complaining about his kids attending private school are the ones who don’t send their kids to their IB school.

You guys crack me up!

This^^

Focus on what you can do for your children’s school and the school system, but judging others for their personal choices won’t get you very far in your own life.
