Dominion Fertility vs. Shady Grove Fertility

17:19 -- I realized after I posted that I shouldn't have written "crazy high" -- I'd never want my chances to be described that way (even though it may very well be true in my case). The fact that you alread had a kid is a great sign! And SG care a lot (too much?) about their stats, so I don't think they'd take your case if they thought your odds of success were poor. If anything, they have a rep for turning away too many women so they can keep up their stats. In any case I wish you luck and hope you find success soon!!!

"They started NCIVF in 2007."

That was for women under 35 with normal FSH. DF just opened the program up less than a year ago for older women with any FSH. As I've said, I think it is great that they are giving older women a chance. My one beef with them is when they gush over how great the NCIVF embryos look, because how the embryos look doesn't tell you whether they are chromosomally normal or whether the mitrochrondria is strong enough to implant and grow, which are the two biggest factors in whether an older women can have a successful pregnancy. Of course, how they look does have some factor in IVF success - slower growing or fragmented embryos do have less chance of implanting. It is just not the only factor for women over 38.

Wow there is so much info online about Dominion Fertility and SG that they both must be the best in the dc area. The amount of things to consider is overwhelming for someone who is just starting out in this issue. I have consults scheduled with both places so I will do as some posters have suggested and go with my gut feeling....

PP if you are a difficult case DF is the better choice in my opinion and I cycled with both places. I agree with some posters that Dr. DiMattina is irritating, but he and Dr. Gordon (who did my ER and ET) get results which is really all that mattered to me in the long run.

Huh, I too was a patient at both places and would categorically say the opposite. I ran screaming from DF and had an incredible experience at SG.

AS for the NCIVF stats...yes, DF has provided that information on their website:

Those stats don't look that great. Lots of women are not making it to retrieval or transfer... I was surprised how many women had retrievals but no transfer, given that they keep saying that they get "the best" egg by doing NCIVF.

yea i have always read that stats can be so misleading, and for IVF you should really look at # of retrievals which end in actual live births.

Hi -

You have to consider that in NCIVF, whether or not a woman makes it to retrieval is not impacted by anyone. There is no medication. As for transfer, that can only be determined once retrieval takes place (can't really know quality of egg prior). So, you can't compare NCIVF stats the same way you can medicated IVF stats. Not saying DF's are good or bad, but you can't compare the same way.

Yes, but I think they do charge something even if you don't make it to retrieval or transfer. Plus you have lost a month and may have dealt with a lot of cycle related stress.

Well...the idea with NCIVF, is that it is LESS stressful...and requires no stims...

I think if I were not of AMA and DF had offered it while I was there...it would have been worth a shot.

You will NEVER get the same kind of stats with NCIVF as with stimmed cycles, but for women with simple fallopian tube issues, etc. This is an amazing option.

And yes, the costs are different depending on how far you get in the cycle...

I don't know why there is so much negative discussion regarding NCIVF. If you don't want to risk it, don't do it! But for some, it is a VERY welcome and desired option! And DF is the only clinic in the area that is offering it. Doesn't seem as though there is anything to debate? Right?

My wife and I went to Shady Grove for a year with IUI and IVF Procedures. I have to say Shady Grave is the worst! You are just a number and nothing is formulated to your body ... everything is by the book ... Dr Greenhouse is an arrogant prick who doesn't care about his patients! I saw him for a year and saw him 3 times and one being the consultation.... went thru 3 nurses cause they always quit. It is a like a factory! I LOATHE SHADY GROVE! Greenhouse is a piece of human trash.... takes your money and doesn't give a shit about his patients.

I hate drudging this up again, especially because the best thing to do is probably to schedule a consult at both clinic and then decide for yourself, but I just had to share this SG story. I did three cycles there and all were unsuccessful. We then decided to get our shared risk money back and go to Cornell. Our doctor spent at SG spent time with us advising us about which other clinic to cycle at (we were considering Cornell and a few others) via phone consults even though we were no longer patients at SG. Today I went in for some bloodwork at SG that will be faxed to Cornell and my old RE at SG saw us in the waiting room and came over to see how we were doing and to wish us luck at Cornell. he also said that he just saw our new doctor at a conference and that he thought we were in good hands (I was impressed that he even remembered which doctor we chose since we last discussed it with him in November). Needless to say, we sure did not feel like a number!!!

Totally disagree. I am a Shady Grove graduate. 32 weeks PG. Love Dr. Greenhouse and his staff. He is a great person and a wonderful doctor.
