Janney incident

we've had good and bad experiences with school staff who also work in aftercare. The talent pool for AC overall is thin and it bothered me more that it was teacher aides who were some of the worst caregivers in AC despite having most training and experience with the cohort. It was at a 'to remain unnamed' school where you would not expect this kind of behavior

Why take a chance someone gets hurt again? Do we fully put our trust in the school to do what’s best for our children once an incident has already occurred? Training sessions might work but they also may not work? What if additional staff is involved and it’s not uncovered? I need to know that my children OUR children are safe. I don’t want to leave this in the hands of a school that has already failed at least one child and parent(s).
Coverups are not okay And sweeping this under the rug is not okay. I will be following up with the police department tomorrow to verify if a police report has been filed.

NP. Either you trust the school and staff or you don't. Your lack of trust isn't more important than privacy.

This is why people get away with hurting kids and we have to wait until they become adults and speak up.

What a bizarre and irrational post - no one is being silent or being allowed to get away with anything. The person has been removed from their position and both the school and DC Police are investigating. Just because an email has not gone out to the parents providing every last detail about the incident doesn't mean it is being covered up.

I agree with the bizarreness of the formatting, and I apologize for that.
However, there is nothing bizarre or irrational about the post I clumbsily +1'ed.

When folks choose to, or are pressured to, blindly trust that Authority will do the right thing in all students' best interest and that Authority would have already taken action if it was necessary, Authority gets the leeway it needs to put its own interest before students'. I've seen it plenty of times before.

Thanks for the clarification and those are fair and valid points. But there is no reason to believe at this point that that has happened here though I'm operating in the same information vacuum that everyone else is.

Exactly. Just saying We fixed it isnt going to cut it at all. Especially when this wasn’t a concern in my mind before.

On the one hand these are fair questions and there no doubt are existing answers to all of them.

On the other hand random stuff happens and an adult with a completely clean background check and outstanding references can snap in a room full of people. Which is to say no amount of caution can prevent every possible bad thing from happening. So it is possible the school strictly followed/analyzed all of your suggestions and this still happened.

It is frustrating that the email is so vague. For all we know, a kid could have hit a JAC counselor.

Something seems off about the whole situation. From the poster who said it’s really bad to the one who said they find it improbable that this happened. To the lack of details. I can’t put my finger on it.

It’s for sure uncomfortable. We also have no idea if any of the posters are trolls or school administration. But for now there is nothing else I see we can do aside from notify local news reporters to find us answers.
