Janney incident

Do you want to send your kid or have their kid at your house if it turns out they ruined someone’s life over nothing? I don’t. Also, IANAL, but seems legally risky too.

Janney screwed up too. Half baked email that could be “kid kicks adult, adult pushes kid away” or could be “Kid raped in closet”. They needed to make it clearer. They also needed to include information about how they train staff, the processes for validation, background checks, etc. Even *uber* - of all companies - knows to point to these policies when they have something happen.

I’m a happy Janney parent but man, the school handled this with the finesse of a 13 year old dry jumping a tree stump.

This incident screams white male privilege to me.

I agree, the school (particularly JAC) handled it well. I think the recent email from the principal was clear.

I said the school handled it with the finesse of a 13 year old dry humping a tree stump. If that wasn’t clear, I was suggesting they didn’t handle it particularly well.

The email sent out was ridiculous. My mind went so crazy that I almost did not send my kids the next day.

It could have been a very unsafe situation for all children at Janney. Shame on them.

I agree with this 100%. They made an assumption the majority saw the emails from the parents. I still haven’t seen them and I don’t care to. Janney administration can use some de-escalation training themselves.

OK. Enough of this. Let’s focus of the lack of eye candy.

Lack of?

Look harder. There’s so much

There’s no eye candy. Unless we want to count a whole bunch of sour airheads.

How does Toe Shoe Dad feel about what happened? Is he horrified by the school's lack of communication skills and will he address this with the ANC?

Probably another kid who shouldn’t be in mainstream education and a staff member not having the training/skills to handle the kid properly. Kids who throw tantrums with hitting and kicking other kids should not be in mainstream, let alone aftercare which is even less suitable for such kids.

It's nice to see this issue resolved. & It's also nice to see the accountability some take for their children. I completely agree that some shouldn't be in mainstream school because they can be a danger when acting out of control. However, some parents don't want to accept this & would rather put teachers, counselors, & other children at risk. Working with children is demanding in every way. I was proud to see some of you concerned not only with the safety of the students, but also, those who work with them everyday. It can be discouraging to be in such a tough field & feel like parents & students don't appreciate you or care about your safety. I'm obviously not saying people shouldn't be concerned with their children's safety, but I am saying you should also be concerned with the safety of those who are serving you & your children & hold your kids accountable when they are wrong. Teach them to respect everyone in the building, their peers, teachers, counselors, janitorial staff, & administrators. Everyone should be working together for the benefit of the children.

I respect you not wanting to say anything but I also don’t understand.
Why take a chance someone gets hurt again? Do we fully put our trust in the school to do what’s best for our children once an incident has already occurred? Training sessions might work but they also may not work? What if additional staff is involved and it’s not uncovered? I need to know that my children OUR children are safe. I don’t want to leave this in the hands of a school that has already failed at least one child and parent(s).
Coverups are not okay And sweeping this under the rug is not okay. I will be following up with the police department tomorrow to verify if a police report has been filed.

NP. Either you trust the school and staff or you don't. Your lack of trust isn't more important than privacy.

This is why people get away with hurting kids and we have to wait until they become adults and speak up.

You’re part of a broad issue with society Good luck to your kids with their “privacy”

Whoops, I meant to +1 this:

What a bizarre and irrational post - no one is being silent or being allowed to get away with anything. The person has been removed from their position and both the school and DC Police are investigating. Just because an email has not gone out to the parents providing every last detail about the incident doesn't mean it is being covered up.

I agree with the bizarreness of the formatting, and I apologize for that.
However, there is nothing bizarre or irrational about the post I clumbsily +1'ed.

When folks choose to, or are pressured to, blindly trust that Authority will do the right thing in all students' best interest and that Authority would have already taken action if it was necessary, Authority gets the leeway it needs to put its own interest before students'. I've seen it plenty of times before.

You know, it's a well-known fact that if you fight Authority, Authority always wins.
