Okay, so maybe you are young-ish now... But what will you wear after 50?
Psst, please do not become one of those old women wearing teen clothes. It's so uncool.

You act like there is no middle ground. Hell, Zara is better than Talbots. You have Milly, Armani, Black Halo, Chiara Boni, etc. Please, the list goes on and on. PS, I'm 49, not 99.

I'm 49, here are my favorite black work pants:

They are Milly. Fit beautifully. They look classic and expensive.

There you go. Talbots sells nothing that falls like these pants.

Different strokes for different folks, but I would never wear those. I also can't afford Milly unless on deep discount.

Same. And I’m the 5’11” poster who could probably pull them off. Just not my style at all. Way too flaired .

Here is my recent find, very good quality and nice cut (the photo doesn't show, but it has buttons on the back all way down):

Is there an American place to shop Danish clothing brands? I recently got some jewelry from Denmark and would love to shop for clothes from there as well.

So it's basically self inflicted misogyny? All women age, too, whether you like it or not.

It's not misogyny to say the clothes are ugly. The clothes don't flatter middle age bodies. They favor boxy, straight line cuts, with enough fabric to 2 tents.

Amen!
I am not afraid to dress for my age. As I get older, I don't mind spending more for quality, comfort and style.

My phases of; finding myself, finding a man, having babies are over. It's ridiculous to dress like one. I do not need to advertise like a flower to a bee.

Maybe your sex drive died at age 49, but mine didn't.

Try Zara. Believe or not, they have great styles - I mostly find the better stuff online though.

The frump store is Christopher & Banks.

And if we are being honest, Ann Taylor, especially LOFT, is not exactly the epitome of style either. You can totally find something or nothing at each of these stores.

Simply, really: because their clothes are frumpy and unfashionable.

It’s still frump wear IMO. Those getting all up in their feelings about how they can find amazing things anywhere: I doubt it. The reason brands like J Brand or similar ever got play was because the fit and therefore the look is superior. Unless you’re a pretty gifted tailor or have one, dumpy trousers don’t look like pants designed to fit, not hide.

The Chicos sizing must have been developed as an ego balm. You’re not a size 14, you’re a 2.5! Now drape yourself in long necklaces like a saloon lampshade. Much style!

Or just different style from you. I imagine you in your skinny jeans, piece-y, beachy highlighted hair that you pay dearly for (and it’s just starting to look a little too dried out lately), looking down your snout at people. Neither the Chico’s style nor the Talbots one really speak me, but I can acknowledge that there’s room for more than one style on the planet. I can also acknowledge the ageism and classism that makes these two brands come in for so much scorn here.

Uh huh. Damn, but you are quite a loser. You have no taste, and no toughness. You go rock your badass Wardrobe Oxygeny self! Many snaps up, honey.

You may still have the mojo, but nobody wants to see that 49 yo body!!

Meh, I happily wear Talbots stuff. Not all of it, because some of it is really cutesy and ridiculous. But I can usually find something each season.

Not a fan of Chicos at all – way too many big patterns and weird embellishments. I'm a fan of shapeless linen as long as it is plain, so Eileen Fisher is fine by me.

I don't love the super preppy Muffy look, but I have had some timeless wool work pants and pencil skirts from Talbots that have been dry cleaned dozens of times and still look great. It's good workhorse office wear for me, not for weekends. YMMV.

Fit and tailoring is one of the biggest problems in women's clothing in the US. For the most part the two stores offer frumpy shapeless clothing.
