MCPS curriculum RFP-Second Attempt

Honestly its shocking that Discovery was even invited to bid in the first place. Jack Smith should turn the process over to Hopkins and take it out of the hands of his incompetent and corrupt staff.

Didn't read through this entire thread but I do know that our neighborhood school is considered in Cohort 1 and will be receiving the new curriculum in the spring. I can't remember if it was for math or literacy but I'll take what I can get!

How do you know? Is there a list somewhere?

My neighbor is the PTA president and had a conversation with the principal. I guess all of the schools who were selected for Cohort 1 last spring are still considered "in" unless they opt out. Some schools might opt out if the principal doesn't want his/her teachers implementing a brand new curriculum in the last couple months of school. I know it might be a pain for the teachers but it's got to be better than this 2.0 fiasco!

They talked about this at our summer area meeting - some schools will start second semester (third quarter) with the new curriculum/new materials. As far as what MCPS planned to do for all the kids who have had 2.0 since second and third grade, and are now in HS, the answer was, "nothing."

That's great that some schools will have materials this year. So 2018-2019 will count as a pilot year? And then most schools will get the curriculum in fall 2019?

It would be really nice if MCPS would actually share some of this information with all of us.

I was thinking the same thing. I’ve read through the curriculum review site and it makes it sound like no one will use the new curriculum until the 2019 school year.

If schools were selected to be in Cohort 1 they have been given the option to stay in and begin implementation in the spring. If schools don't want to implement a new curriculum in the spring they can opt out of Cohort 1. I believe there will be a little training to get the new curriculum off the ground, a light implementation in the spring and then more in-depth training this summer. I'm not sure if Cohort 2 will begin in the fall of 2019 or not.

Thanks. This is useful. When will schools tell parents what cohort their school is in? Will there be a list published?

You'd think they'd be blasting this update from the hills in order to not look so inept after Erick Lang pulled a fast one. Delaying the pilot from Fall Semester to Spring semester is less damaging than delaying it to Fall 2019. Sounds like they want to do full roll-out Fall 2019, hence some guinea pig teachers and students get to change reading and math materials mid-year...

well, it's all unconfirmed DCUM anonymous posts. The RFP could get delayed for some other mistake...

Yeah, like "I don't want to work so hard, let's make it take 10 months not 3."

Well, there's only 5 business days left in August, so if they don't issue the RFP in the next 5 days, people should write them and ask why on earth not.
