MCPS curriculum RFP-Second Attempt

Agree. Curriculum does not matter, just the parent community and teachers who supplement it. Don't worry.

Huh? A good curriculum does make it much easier for teachers to do their jobs (and for parents to help their children learn). But again, let's hope good providers respond to the RFP and don't think it's not worth it because it's pre-cooked to support Discovery Education.

so...who are the good curriculum providers?

Singapore Math is well respected.

Lucy Calkins and Writers Workshop are good for ELA.

Big curriculum providers like Houghton Mifflin have put together decent curricula.

Does anyone know if they are bidding?

Presumably someone at MCPS does if they've already bid. But the bidding doesn't close until 9/28 at 2 p.m.

What happened, we just moved here a few months ago. Only used the real estate section DCUM.

This is exactly what happened. My oldest kid started ES in 2011 and that basically sums it up.

MCPS is a poorly-run disaster. Agree that you should ask your neighbors. Most of my neighbors would give you an earful.

Will any of the bidding process be made public?

The RFP is online (a link is posted upthread).

The RFP closed today. Let’s hope McPS does a good job making a selection.

I know from someone close to dr smith that he wants to purchase an evidence based curriculum.

It's interesting that on their curriculum review website that MCPS only talks about a vendor finalist presentation, rather than finalists. So MCPS picks one and then stakeholders rubber stamp their choice?

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/office/
Release RFP-August 2018
Evaluation and Selection of Finalists-October-November 2018
Vendor finalist presentation to stakeholder and community groups-November 2018
Finalize recommendations-December 2018
Proposal for adoption by the Board of Education-January 2019

Yeah but the other idiots want Discovery and to keep their pals in business. They will try to shape this so Discovery is the only option. Its the easiest for them to adopt since its basically 2.0 again and if things go south they can always go work for Discovery. Kudos to Dr Smith if he is successful against the garbage within MCPS but I'd still wager it ends up being Discovery.

It better not be. If they cancel the RFP and the kids are stuck with 2.0 for an extra year to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest and then choose Discovery Education which isn’t highly regarded, parents will be pissed.

No. It won’t be discovery, they are still in beta mode plus only bid on narrow aspects for the rfp. Plus half the county that is aware of Eric Lang and c2.0 would go straight to the press and governor if they won anything.
