| I would encourage you to leave with a bit of a time cushion so that you can get your kid to the practice on time. If your kid plays rec, you can talk to the coach if you expect that your kid will routinely be late to practices. It is not great, but most rec coaches will accommodate you since rec soccer is supposed to be about having fun. If your kid plays travel on a good team, he/she would be competing for playing time. If there are two equally skilled players, but one is early to every practice and the other one is chronically late, I would expect that the first kid would get more playing time, if the coach is any good. |
| don't sign up!!! don't set a bad work ethic in motion by thinking its ok to be late.. its about being part of a team!!!! even if the coach doesn't mind its bad parenting. maybe not to the extent that your raising a criminal or drug addict . but you are teaching them its ok to not fulfill your commitments and obligations. We as a society want our kids to be better than we are as people. so either your with us or get out of the way!! |
Leave earlier.... sigh. THANKS CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!! |
Practice shaming at its best right here. |
| I hate to say it, if you are asking this forum how to handle commuting to soccer practice you need to quit now. Have you ever taken a job where you need to get there on time? You do your best to schedule around it to ensure you are there on time and sometimes it's out of your control. Asking the peanut gallery isn't going to help. The fact that we are burning time on this POS site means we aren't the best at time mgmt anyways. |
| just carpool with another family? |
| There are a lot of people on this thread with anger management problems. |

FFS people, get a grip. Get - a - F@#$@#ing - GRIP.
This wasn't about the character of being consistently late person (OP didn't ask for that). It wasn't about being too self-important to be on time (OP didn't ask for that). It wasn't about being habitually late (OP didn’t suggest that either). This was a simple question about traffic and the potential for issues--what to do if there is some unexpected traffic issue? A wreck, a motorcade, a broken subway line (like this morning). Anyone here who thinks traffic on a 20+ minute drive is completely predictable is just full of crap. OP, if there is some major issue with traffic it is likely that several other players will be late too. Text the coach and let them now. Coaches are more than likely going to understand if it is actually out of your control. If you are a consistently late person than you need to adjust, out of respect for your coach and teammates. If you have a team with a coach who doesn't understand the occasional one-off or parents like some of these posters, find another team. Seriously--these other parents are going to burn out their kids to the point they'll hate the game and be excited one day if they make the JV of an NAIA team. Avoid them for your sanity, and more importantly, for your kid's well-being. Seriously people--stop posting your own internal insecurities and rants in response to a simple fricking question about traffic. |

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall -- you need me on that wall. We use words like "honor," "code," "loyalty." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand the post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to! - That's what I would tell the coach if it was me....but to each their own |

I fixed it for you.

We use these words as the backbone of a life wasted in traffic. You use them as a punch line. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you find a carpool, get a telecommuting job, hire a driver and get to practice on time. Did you order the code red? |

The question was, do the coaches allow for this, or should you leave extra early, and the answer is, leave early if you can.
We in the DMV assume there will be traffic and plan accordingly, if we are so able, and coaches will expect you to do the same. If you can't leave extra early, as a rule talk to the team manager if there is one: they can help finding carpools and solutions. (Maybe everyone else has the same traffic? Maybe sorting out a solution for you helps others, too.) If no team manager, talk to the coach. Do your reasonable best. (But of course don't go nuts. Of course your actual job should be your priority!) But be on time, if you can, if it's not an undue hardship. |
