If you found your teen’s Vaping supplies would you confiscate?

My girlfriend was pretty extreme when she found out her son was vaping. She took his cell phone and read all of his texts. She then texted back all of his friends that he could no longer hang out with them because they vaped, but they were welcome to come to his house and have dinner with him and his mom. She made him delete all social media. She made him quit his clubs and sports. He didn't switch schools, but basically she made him start over and find new friends. Kid seems okay, but I feel sorry for him.

Wow that’s pretty extreme. I would never have my kid quit sports or other healthy activities.

Second time - I left it in its hiding place and monitored when it was missing so I could get an idea of how often it was being used and then confiscated it about two months later and had another talk.
Third time - DH found it in the car and left it.
Fourth time - I confiscated it when I walked in his room and he was stoned and it was out in the open in his room.
I have given up.

Do you think a lot of kids are vaping weed/thc? Just curious if vaping nicotine leads to vaping weed often?

No. Vaping nicotine doesn't lead to vaping weed. It's just another delivery mechanism.

Almost 16 (October)

YES, I would confiscate and then keep out a sharp eye for new supplies. If I had to I would cut off the cash and credit cards. A 15 year old vaping? No way would that fly in our house.

This.
Of course you confiscate supplies and throw out. If he/she is going to do it anyway (and he/she might), there is still no need for you to make it cheap and easy by allowing him/her to keep the current collection. While he/she is under your roof, you need to make it expensive (and not pleasant) to maintain this very unhealthy habit.

I do regular backpack and room searches and will come across the juuling package or insertsperiodixally. I throw them out. I talk about health risks. It’s tiring. I’m not the only parent dealing with this. And, DH and I are involved parents. Punishing has its limits. All we can do is try to get through.

True but... you haven't reached those limits yet though...since your DC is still vaping. Just sayin...

I get being tired. I don't get giving up.

Keep talking. Keep explaining how harmful it is to his lungs. And keep providing unpleasant concrete consequences for making the choice to do this to his body.
Your kid needs to know that he matters enough to you to care what he does to himself.

Does smoking cigarettes lead to smoking weed? There's your answer (hint: No, because the "gateway drug" argument is a massive, steaming pile of horse manure).

It’s not though. I have several friends and family members in re overt they all said they tried things they wouldn’t have because they were high on weed. Those other substances were what lead to their addiction (cocaine, meth, opioids)

I agree with confiscating, but what about the nicotine addiction these teens most likely have. How are you addressing the nicotine addiction? I have witnessed adults who were on their deathbed who couldn’t give up the nicotine. I am sure it is not going to be easy for teens to easily quit.

I agree that’s a huge part of it. Any suggestions? I’m in the thick of it with my teen right now

I don’t know. Maybe your child’s doctor could offer some advice for the nicotine addiction. I would think that would be a medical issue. Good luck. I hear nicotine is hard to quit once you are hooked.

My oldest became an example to the younger ones. Found her JUUL when she was 17. Cancelled her phone, took away the car, and told her to get a job and start looking for a place to live. She turned 18 two months later and was gone. Passed her the college bill a few months later, but since she couldn't pay it, she was disenrolled.

She was warned and had the option to heed the warning. But now she's free to vape and smoke every meal of the day if she wants.

That ignores all of us people who tried weed and didn’t do anything else. These folks would have found their addictions with or without the weed. Other people won’t try hard core drugs even while using weed.

Us should be they. Sorry for the typo! I haven’t yet had my addiction, morning coffee.
