If this was a dense area well served by transit and people coming to and from the neighborhood had other good options maybe this would make sense.

But for one car dependent suburb to shut out other car dependent suburbanites is hypocrisy of the highest order.

FWIW I don't even drive and doubt I've ever even used this exit.

Metro goes to and from Tysons, all day to places all over Maryland. Most McLean people who do use this exit (most do not) have other options.

Don't some people from Maryland need to get to downtown McLean?

It not currenly very easy to get from MoCo to Tysons by transit. You have to take the Red line into DC, then change to the Silver line. Now if the people of McLean, represented by the McLean Civic Association, were to call for extending the Purple Line from Bethesda to Tysons via McLean, I would say they were serious about transit.

One train change? Really? That's hard?!?

Entitled and clueless McLean residents squaring off against equally entitled and clueless Bethesda residents about one anothers rights to drive however and wherever they like in their exclusive and poorly designed suburbs is highly entertaining.

Both communities now have pretty easy options for getting downtown on public transportation but not options for getting between their communities.

If there is magically some group of McLean residents who use public transportation to get around the suburbs I hope they will show up and advocate for this road closing.

Everyone else just needs to STFU else they will reveal how completely clueless and hypocritical they really are.

You are missing the point, as expected. It seems as though you do not want anyone speaking out, and that is not going to happen.

Nope not missing the point - I have no objection to people speaking out as they are constitutionally entitled to do. I will just howl with laughter at the hypocrisy of car dependent McLean residents telling other car dependent residents that they can't use public roadways.

I don't think that many McLean people depend on Maryland for work, but keep laughing, if it makes you feel better.

Oh god you are dense. McLean people rely on public roads to get around. Just like the people they want to keep out.

So what is your point? Is there a road in Maryland that Marylanders are going to close to McLean people? If not, your point is not at all relevant.

In this case VDOT conceded to the wishes of McLean residents. The relevant "losers" on the Virginia side would be the employers in Tysons, who value their labor force, including those who commute from MoCo, though they may have been assuaged by the VDOT study showing general functioning of I495 being okay. I would hope FCDOT and FFX BoS takes this silly giveaway to McLean residents into account in making other transportation decisions, which eventually may include running an extended Purple Line on the streets of McLean - which, BTW, would provide a superior transit route for people from lower MoCo to get to Tysons, and would help with the Tysons transformation.

Got it. You think you are an urban planner. I am sure that residents on VA and MD are dying to hear your brilliant plans!

Anyway, to address the point at issue: there are other offramp to the beltway, no one is saying the beltway is blocked off. Yet. But I see ramifications are lost on your type.

What are you babbling about? You will note this forum is called "local politics" so you might except some discussion of planning.

Case in point.

WTH did Marylanders who use that intersection expect to happen? Did they think they were going to get awards for biggest a-hole move for their (lack of) driving skills? My God, they can't even read a very simple "don't block the box" sign and adhere to it. Who wants to tolerate that kind of BS? No one who doesn't have to, is your answer.

All the private school families in McLean and Great Falls with kids at schools in Maryland are freaking out. Holton, Holy Child, Norwood, McLean School, Landon.

They can get on from GW parkway or at 123.

I live in Mclean 22102 and drive through on GTP on the way home. Those a holes are always blocking the intersection where traffic backs up to the Highschool sometimes.

Basically the down ramp is clogged and trafffic back up. I hate the turds who drive past the down ramp and then turn right to get in the ramp where the incoming traffic comes down.

Can’t they just Cris the river at Chain Bridge and go up Clara Barton.... would make sense rather than the bumper to bumper traffic on 495 to pick up your kids..

+1 we are going to move unless this is passed.

Uh, no, there aren't

+1

Report them. The cops know about them. Big $$$$$ for Fairfax County.

Go up Clara Barton? Do you mean turn left off the Chain Bridge on the DC/Md side? Illegal to do that.

If you work in Tysons, you are not taking Georgetown Pike to get home to MD. It's out of your way. These MDers probably work in the Dulles Corridor. The line to turn left on to Georgetown Pike from Route 7 is ridiculous. The beltway is ridiculously close to 123/7 in Tysons. That's only 1 exit behind Georgetown Pike and easy to get to. Furthermore, Marylanders can take the toll express lanes for those two exits and get to the Georgetown Pike exit if they are in a hurry.
