Closing Georgetown Pike Ramp to I-495

Anonymous
Has anyone heard much about this? I cannot believe they would consider closing a highway ramp for any reason. We need better access to the highway, not worse.

I can. My GOD, every second car has MD plates! Can take me over an hour to get to the exit during rush hour.

Of course the McLean residents do.

OMG I would be SO in favor of this! It's all MD drivers running all over the streets in Mclean trying to get on the Beltway!!! Where do I sign?

As someone who drives on Georgetown Pike every evening (from work in McLean to home in Great Falls), I love this idea! Can’t happen soon enough.

Maybe it will lead Maryland to think about an additional bridge crossing, something they have steadfastly refused to consider in the past. If not, seems this could lead to more Maryland residents relocating to Virginia.

Simmer down, Sparky! All you Virginians sound unhinged. Maybe you'd like to tear down the bridge and build a wall?

The increased traffic through McLean is a direct result of the increased fares on I-66. Why isn't anybody mentioning this?

Yep Virginia sold our McLean to keep Arlington happy.

People who could legally drive for free on I66 before still can.

simply an asinine idea. it will only make local traffic worse. the problem is a result of over-development, suburban sprawl and poor master planning. pushing the traffic to the roads of the next neighborhood simply will not work, it will just spread the jams further into the local neighborhoods. the solution is not less access to the major arteries but more. widen the bridge, add a river crossing, etc.

the beltway is the ONLY major artery heading to MD and its jammed BOTH WAYS. Limiting access to it cannot possibly help the people who use it and will not change the disaster that is Georgetown Pike. You know what will? Remove its designation as a "scenic byway" and add traffic lights and stop signs! Then improve the intersection at 495 so drivers cannot cheat the turn lanes. That is what exacerbates the issue the most.

Hopefully MD will just ban Virginia drivers altogether.
