I'm not sure that Roseanne's tweet about Valerie Jarrett is as racist as it appears to be

This is what our nation once great nation has been reduced to by imbeciles.

Let’s just call her out for the crackerass peckerwood she is and leave it at that.

For all the cons always griping about Jeff locking and deleting threads and preventing them from expressing their POV, I just want to point out that he is letting you display your racist, stupid POV. Unimpeded.

There are a lot of us who wish he wouldn’t.

But Roseanne as a person may not be a racist. No one has come up with any evidence that Roseanne knew VJ is African American when she tweeted it.

But how do we know what Roseann was thinking when she sent that tweet out? She obviously doesn't like VJ, she may have been looking at a picture of her and lashing out on her overall appearance. The fact that she knew VJ was African American may not have played a part in thinking she looked like she was from Planet of the Apes.

It doesn't matter what Roseann was thinking. If she didn't know VJ is African American, she as a person is not racist. Again the tweet itself is still bad, and ABC should fire her regardless of whether Roseann knew or not.

What about Susan Rice? Does she also look similar pretty but similar enough to an ape to justify Roseanne’s comment about her? OP do you also think she looks white? Roseanne has a history of posting racist stuff on Twitter.

It's also interesting that her history of Islamophobia doesn't seem to bother anyone.

Shorter OP: Roseanne is not racist because Jarrett passes as a house n*****r.

It’s Trump Fatigue. The In your face Islamophobia has been with us since the inception of the Muslim ban. Apparently, I. Trumps America, there are no real consequences for blatant Islamophobia. The blatant in your face racism is nothing new either. It’s just nice to see there is a line in the sand somewhere.

Also, if you don’t live in an urban, global part of America, you might never meet a Muslim. Seriously. I was raised in the South. My mother, grad degree and fairly liberal, could not cope when I mentioned that DD’s play date that we were picking up was Muslim, so we needed to also get beef hotdogs for the girls. Instant freak out. Wait, we were going to meet Larla’s mother? A Muslim woman? What should she say? What should she do? Did Larla’s mother “take the veil” (WTF? And no, no hijab)? Was my mother “allowed” to look Larla’s mother in the eyes (again, WTF?), and this definite undertone of— I’m sure you know what you are doing, but is it really safe to let my grandchild play with a Muslim? It’s like, well, Mom, your grandchild’s school has quite a few Muslim students, our next door neighbors who you met when they came over for a picnic were Muslim (they were? And no one told me? And I treated them like human beings?)

Where I grew up, there was one Jewish family in town, who sent 2 kids to my HS. Forget Muslim. So a lot of liberals are more comfortable with Islamophobia, because they are uncomfortable around Muslims. They know they “shouldn’t be”. But they are. But they deal with different races every day.

ABC does not want to go within a million miles of the anti-Muslim crack, because a lot of Americans are anti-Islamophobia in theory. In practice, Muslims make them uneasy. Because they have no experience with Muslims— or really any cultural diversity. Whereas my kids grow up with all sorts of religious and cultural diversity. But do not have the same experiences with SES diversity I had growing up in the rural south.

The othering of America.

The comment did not justify cancellation of the entire show - especially considering:

- the harm to so many innocent actors/writers/employees who worked on it,

- Rosanne apologized (several times), and

- she is a comedian! An entertainer. It is her job to push limits and say outrageous things. The networks need to grow up and stop pandering to snowflakes.

I think the perceptions of identity that this raises are interesting.

I wonder if a few generations ago, someone like Jarret might identity as white for the percieved social advantages.

Sorry, but many of us think these "comedians" need to reign it in. I'm beyond disgusted with "comedians" like Roseann and Kathy Griffin who think they can say and do whatever they want, no matter how repulsive, disgusting, and offensive. They're learning that actions have consequences---sometimes swift and long-lasting consequences.

According to Wikipedia,

"On the television series Finding Your Roots, DNA testing indicated that Jarrett is of 49% European, 46% African, and 5% Native American descent."

Seems like she is less than 50% African.

Well, 46% is more than one drop.
