Is it legal for MCPS to pay salary of a private school principal?

The Saturday School provides additional help to students who might be struggling in some areas or might not have support at home. It's one an important initiative of MCPS to level the playing field between the wealthy and the poor and between whites and URMs in our county.
The salary is in line with the salaries of MCPS principals as it should be. Our old principal was making more than $160. And he was a total jerk who did nothing.

Is Saturday School limited to URMs? I don’t think so because my very white neighbor attends.

The director does indeed get paid by mcps for running a program. RICA is similar in that it’s a county school funded in part by the state.

RICA is not similar to Saturday School. RICA is a public school. Saturday School is a private school.

Agree with this PP.

RICA is NOT similar to Saturday School.

RICA is an actual MCPS school. It has an MCPS run website. It is funded by MCPS.

Saturday School is a 'non-profit' that gets money from MCPS, but gets additional funds through private donors.

I agree that MCPS should NOT be paying the salary of an employee of a non-profit such as Saturday School. And, I put 'non-profit' in quotes, because there are plenty of 'non-profits' that make a ton of money and use it to pay random staff/directors.

Barkley was a very successful principal and was promoted to the Saturday School director. Her salary is line with her step in the admin union. She makes more than some administrators, less than others.

Why would she not deserve to make as much as a principal? Do you think that she only works on Saturdays?

Bc people are questioning the connection btw her program and mcps

If you don’t understand how it’s a program supported by the school system, county & other organizations, you will question her salary.

What is connection that permits MCPS employee to run charter school?

Saturday School is not a charter school. It's also not a private school.

You can read about the Saturday School programs here. I found this by Googling "Saturday School Montgomery County": http://www.saturdayschool.org/programs/

After reading this thread, I learned a few facts: 1. The Saturday School is NOT a part of MCPS, 2. The Saturday School’s serives area includes PG county. 3. The funding sources of the Saturday School are diverse but include MCPS and MC.
The key question is : why MCPS is paying the salary of its Executive Director? Is she a MCPS employee currently?
It appears that the Saturday School has been successful in seriving the communities but its successes should not prohibit county residents asking question about its relationship with MCPS.

Nobody is prohibited from asking anything.

Yes, she is currently an MCPS employee. http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/directory/directory_Boxoffice.aspx?processlevel=30615

DP because why is MCPS paying for a private school principal?

It's not a private school, like Georgetown Day or Sidwell Friends or whatever. Have you read anything about it? It's for students in MCPS: http://www.saturdayschool.org/about-us/ And she's not the principal, she's the executive director.

Here's is the salary schedule for principals (the MCAAP one): http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/ersc/employees/pay/schedules/salary_schedule_current.pdf

That organization is HUGELY HEAVY WITB ADMINISTRATORS. What a shock.

Those are all valid concerns. Why is MCPS paying the salary of a Private School administrator?

And according to their website, MCPS is a major funding partner so MCPS must be offering a great deal of financial support.

Considering that MCPS doesn’t even have enough money to support the schools within its system, why are they diverting funds to a private organization?

MCPS is not doing this.

Has there been any research done to show that any of these programs are affective? Do ACT/SAT test scores increase after the tutoring? Are math and reading proficiency increased? Or is this just an entitlement program for administrators?

Because our current county council thinks that people from Bethesda, Potomac and Poolesville are ‘bad’ and people from Silver Spring/Wheaton/Gaithersburg & PG county are ‘good’ and worthy of the majority of the county’s funds while the other residents can pay for their own private tutoring and school buildings (Poolesville). Nancy Navarro doesn’t cry on the chaise for just anyone you know.
