Is it legal for MCPS to pay salary of a private school principal?

Anonymous
Salaries are uniform. Based on her years in the system and years as a principal and the fact that she’s considered a HS principal.

This makes a little sense. But I still feel the salary is too high comparing with Montgomery County Public School principals's salary.
Is Sat School for enrichment and after-school programs?

What information do you base this statement on?

Please check at:

The executive director's salary is higher than some principals' salaries and lower than others'. (In fact, this executive director is a former principal.) That's not the question. The question is, why does the OP think that the executive director's salary is too high?

Saturday School is an MCPS program, not a private school. Of course MCPS pays her salary.

Yes and she does her trainings with the other MCPS principals.

The principal of the George B. Thomas Saturday School is Khadija Barkley.
Ms. Barkley's annual salary of $147,515 is paid out of the MCPS Operating Budget as was the salary of the previous Saturday School principal.

The Board of Education has been paying the salary for the principal of this private school for years.

The salary is even higher than many MCPS principles.

Just wonder whether this is appropriate.

Parents Coalition really loses credibility with hysterical posts like this that completely misrepresent facts. Saturday School is not a “private school” as people use that term. As amply explained in this thread. Just makes Parebts’ Coalition look like loonies.

I remember when they raised alarm about MCPS payments to the Baptist Convention of MD/DE, which owns Skycroft, where kids go for Outdoor Ed.

God, this is misleading.

I have a child who benefited from Saturday School, along with many of his schoolmates. This is an MCPS program, staffed by MCPS teachers, which takes place at MCPS high schools around the region.

Whoever manages this thing has to help organize the curriculum, which includes remediation for anyone who needs it and acceleration for under-represented groups, manage the site coordinators and teachers at however many schools (at least 5) where Saturday School takes place, make sure the bus schedules are correct and that letters go out every year.

This is very similar to any other MCPS principal job in many ways.

I think the Parents’ Coalition is doing itself a disservice through a misleading post like that.

GBT is not an MCPS program. It is run and managed by a non-profit. Yes MCPS gives them lots of support (money, staff, building) but they have their own board of directors.
If they were an MCPS program they would be required to serve students with disabilities. Sadly they counsel away kids with significant disabilities, and say they can’t meet certain IEPs. Illegal for a place of public accommodation that takes so much public money, but apparently no one has successfully challenged them on it.

I also agree that Saturday School is NOT an MCPS program. It is a separate business.

Khadija Barkley used to be a principal within MCPS, I think. She's very nice. My kid really benefited from Saturday school help. I'm glad it exists and has a good leader.
