This. You've got to be kidding me PP.

What is the obsession with trashing Mexico on this Board. It comes up over and over.

Sorry, meant PP.

I think it's some angry people from the politics forum, trying to make a point. Since this thread comes up weekly now.

So Mexico is either a beautiful, safe country full of warm lovely people, or its a dangerous, filled with murderous gangs, and every Mexican citizen that shows up at our border is deserving of asylum. You can't have it both ways.

Actually yes you can. In the same way that the United States is a beautiful, safe country full of warm lovely people yet has the highest homicide rate in the industrialized world.

So, US citizens should be given refugee status in the rest of the industrialized world?

Please don't go. I was just researching this for my own family. (and the seaweed smell, mosquitos and bedbugs really are a problem) https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2018/04/27/5-tortured-bodies-found-stuffed-vehicle-cancun-bringing-months-total-57

We've been to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen 5 times in the past ~10 years. We always felt safe at the all inclusive resort but on our visit last year we had a scary situation during an excursion - when leaving some men approached our car and started arguing with our driver (it seems like they were trying to get him to step out of the car) ... he seemed alarmed and took off abruptly. We felt like we just avoided a bad situation (robbery etc). We will go back again, but probably not this upcoming year - or until the warnings are lifted.

This is a more detailed article about all of these horrific stories they’ve investigated... read the top link first though.

Wow, thank you so much for posting this!

Needless to say these stories are NOT overreactions... if travel does like Expedia & travel agents are involved covering it up, that's really scary.

Anyone contemplating Mexico needs to read those two links.

Sorry, meant to say Trip Advisor, not Expedia.

No, we have ruled out travel to Mexico for the time being.

Going to Akumal next week. We go to Mexico every year and have never felt unsafe. Last year, we went to Mexico City and had a wonderful time.

We’ve been to Mexico, and really enjoyed it. I don’t hate Mexico but lately no I would not go. The world is so big, so many wonderful places to see, that we can’t really justify going there. That’s not to say everyone going these days ends up a victim or has a terrible time certainly, but there are too many other/better/safer options.
