Wow - it's like he's reading my mind! I had been leaning towards Krasnow, but that changed my mind. I think I'll.vote for Frick.

I agree, Elrich would be 100% the worst. I won't vote for any current council member for any position. Ditto.school board

So that make Blair the consensus anti-Elrich pick? He wasn’t my first choice but I think anyone would be better than Elrich at this point. He seems to have support from the most liberal of liberals though- I’m on a “progressive” neighborhood listserv and god help anyone who says a bad word about Elrich. They’re fanatical about him.

On one hand I understand his concern about over-development but MoCo has a real problem with declining business/tax revenue and he hasn’t given a good explanation for how to address that.

That was a great interview- need to read the rest but liking what Frick had to say.

What about Krasnow?

That’s who I’ve been leaning towards. Wish they had endorsed her, I find the Blair pick peculiar.

He is the only one with a chance of raising the tax base. He gets that part and Post agreed. I do think Frick might be good choice too. But the others, no way! Watch our taxes go up and programs still get cut. Unsustainably dynamic.

The Post is bat s*** crazy. They endorsed Hans Riemer and said he was a good leader. Hans is nice and all, but he has struggled asPresident. It makes me question every single Post endorsement.

Not quite.

The reality is that there simply isn't a lot of room for new ideas. The majority of the budget goes towards things like schools, cops and firefighters. Then everyone else fights over what are essentially scraps (for human services programs, the courts, etc.).

There's a great deal of time and energy invested in sustaining what we have. It's a tremendous balancing act, and a thankless job quite frankly.

The biggest issue I see is too much growth. Too many buildings (many of which are empty). Too much traffic (my commute went from 1 hour to closer to 2 hours in the course of the last 8 years).

Next issue: poorly performing schools. Yes, I realize our schools are highly ranked and better than most across the state and country. But I also realize that 2.0 was a big, expensive mistake that not only screwed students but also prompted people to pick DC, Howard County, Frederick or NoVa over MoCo. Facts don't lie: we've lost wealthy residents to DC and VA. This was prompted by schools and taxes...and our tax revenue has taken a big hit...and will continue to unless/until something changes.

I'm a liberal BTW. I'm cool with paying taxes as long as I'm seeing a ROI in terms of benefits, services, community improvement, etc. But I'm not seeing it. All I'm seeing is a seemingly downward death spiral in mcps. All I'm seeing is more growth...more big, empty apartment and condo buildings. And more traffic.

But I'm not sure a new guy can fix the problems that the county councilmembers have struggled with. They can't control the BoE or Mcps superintendent (nobody can). A new guy will face a steep (one term) learning curve. It will be a very scary amateur hour for an entire term. Is that what we really want?

So who do you like?

Those who like Frick, please tell me why and what he is for? Everything I've seen and read has him bashing others, and not standing for anything...

I am not a fan. Rose was not the problem at the Planning Dept, the Plnning Board was/is. She was a staffer who the Board over-rode every time in favor of developers. I like her! Berliner I want to like, but he takes too much $$ from developers.

I don’t like Frick either. His anti councilmember ad based on term limits and not doing what the voters want (by running for another office) is hypocritical. He’s a politician running for yet another office as well.

I think they also endorsed Pat O’Neill for BOE.

Krasnow used to be on the Planning Board. So vote for her if you like those results.

Rose Krasnow has never been on the Planning Board. She was deputy director of the Planning Department - a staff position.

Also, by law, no more than three Planning Board commissioners may belong to the same political party. So the Planning Board has three Democrats and two Republicans.

This is a HUGE problem for MoCo, IMO. The development over the past decade is RIDICULOUS. All the high rises are changing the feel of the county. And, when all this increased housing remains empty, it does not led to an increase in tax revenue. There needs to be more thought put into how many buildings to up and when.

Who says it's empty?

MOCO needs an exec who understands business. Who can create jobs. Legit knew none of this.

Berliner is a corrupt self interested jerk. Don’t believe that he’s better than that because a month before an election he’s being real nice and throwing out a few bones. Please!
