| What was your cogat and nnat score and why did you use wisc when you submitted your application. Thought people use it only for appeals. |
It does when you were denied first round with a FSIQ = 134 |
| What was your cogat and gbrs score as you were denied with fis of 134 |
| Does it matter? People are being accused of being trolls and the comment was people with scores over 130 shouldn't worry. Both statements are untrue. For some reason this year, FCPS is discounting WISCs 130+ in ways they did not before, I know because I have children in AAP who were accepted with lower scores than my recent child who was denied with a 130 WISC. |
| Is a Fairfax trying to tighten up the program? Now that Carol Horn is gone, maybe the new coordinator is playing hardball? |
That would only be what their doing if they also rejected sub par NNAT and CogATs but they're not. They reject WISCS of 130+ but people were posting getting in with low-ish NNAT and/or CogATs at right around 132. If you'e playing hardball then an aptitude test, which is not an IQ test that is right at pool shouldn't get in either. |
| *they're* sorry! |
| i think that we need to form a group and write a letter to the AAP appeals office that WISCs of 130+ (maybe 128+) should override all other low scores/GBRS and the kids should be accepted to AAP. How about going to the FCPS main office in one big group to voice the concern? |
What were Cogat/NNAT/GBRS of child in AAP vs one not admitted? What were GBRS teacher comments? There has to be more to the story then you are mentioning it here. |
Agreed, 128 is 97 percentile. |
High WISC does not indicate academic excellence which is what AAP is targeted for. High Cogat/NNAT/GBRS does. I wouldn't be surprises if FCPS stops accepting WISC score all together (only accepted for 2e child). This year everyone rejected seems to opting for WISC despite having lower Cogat/NNAT/GBRS! |
Some poster on here a few weeks back mentioned going to WaPo. That seems like a better idea. |
High WISC does indicated giftedness. The AAP Program was developed by FCPS to meet VA state mandate for GIFTED education. Not "academic excellence." FCPS uses the word gifted on its AAP website (see below). WISC of 130+ is gifted so your argument is unavailing. "In Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), gifted services are available to students who exhibit exceptional performance capability in academic, intellectual, and creative endeavors through Advanced Academic Programs (AAP). " - https://www.fcps.edu/index.php/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs Also, in applying you fill out a Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale So there is that . . . . |
You're insane. The new name "Advanced Academics," was made to INCLUDE not just gifted kids but also high-achievers and hard workers deemed able to meet the challenge. The program is not meant to exclude gifted kids. Gifted kids need a different cirriculum the say way children with special needs need a different cirriculum. |
One of DD’s friends got in with 99th percentile NNAT, and 80 odd percentile COGAT. This doesn’t make sense in light of all the high score WISC rejections here. There must be another factor at play here that we’re not aware of. |
