I just turned 50, help me not descend into frump town.

Embrace the need to change your clothing style.

You also have to embrace the fact that adding a few pounds improves the look of your skin. If you lose too much weight, your skin falls down.

This is what i'd do. As you know, as you get older, your body changes. you don't lose weight as easily and your weight redistributes. going to a stylist will help you dress your new body. i'm 46 and things are changing. but, damn, i still look good!

Their price points are all over but I find that the looks can either be gotten by rethinking stuff in my closet plus buying something from them plus supplementing from the gap (especially jeans). I like the nice priced classic handbags on their site that are both age appropriate and look classic. If you look at enough of their clothes/outfits, you will begin to see that they are careful to mix in some dresses with flats, long sleeves to hide arms, knee and midi lengths, scarves, ponchos and all with coordinating jewelry.

OP - I think Vince is a good label for older women. Their stuff is simple but modern. Think about updating your makeup too. It’s really easy to get into a rut for years and the sort of makeup that would look better on you now may be different from what you wore when younger. Try playing around with jewelry too. Nothing expensive is necessary but a cool bracelet or pair of earrings can really punch up a look.

+1

I like the Style at a Certain Age blog.

Just looked at this blog. Awful. The certain age must be 75.

Everyone ages. Even you will age. True story!

Of course, but OP said she was 50, not 75.

Don't get plastic surgery. Exercise.

Do not:

Pluck your eyebrows and draw them in
Wear a heap of foundation
Wear extremely bright lipstick

The most attractive older women wear less or no make up

And condition your hair if it's gray. Condition condition condition.

Pointy-toed flats is the solution.

+1k Always a chic look. Do not wear rounded toe or Mary Jane flats.

This is the OP. I really love these looks. Thanks for posting, their prices are a bit steep for me but I can definitely use them for inspiration.

THANK YOU to the lady who posted these Halsbrook links! I love it!

If you wear heels, don’t wear chunky heels.

Wedges and block heels looks fine for any age, just get them in neutral colors without ANY embellishments.

You're welcome!

I should also mention that they often have sales for 10%, 15% or 20% off. A couple of weeks ago they had a 20% Friends and Family promotion. They always have a great promotion around Mother's Day as well. I never buy anything full price.

Also, I once wrote to them and asked about their shoes -- they use Ferragamos a lot (those are obvious in the photos) but also really inexpensive ones from Zappos (they told me this in the email).

This blog (and there's much more on instagram) may help - (full disclosure - it's my friend and she's in the UK, but I still think it's relevant!) - Does My Bum Look 40 In This?

I adore the style blogger of midlife chic, but she also is UK based and so many of her clothes suggestions are not available here.
