But so what; at least they got into somewhere. What does it matter to you or anyone else.

Top schools like geographical and public/private diversity, and there aren't many places to look in DC other than Wilson.

But Wilson students generally don't shine at top schools compared to graduates of area privates and MD/VA publics. They are typically middle of the pack and quite a few struggle.

PP, in the interests of taking your unproven assertions seriously...are you saying here that the top colleges in the country - who largely have their choice of students, and who have, over the years taken dozens of Wilson students - continue to accept them knowing that they will be mediocre, middle of the pack students. Really???

A lot of colleges admission staffs like Wilson because they can score points for recruiting from an "urban" high school and often diversity, while taking students who more closely fit the profile of advantaged suburban students.

Any impulse in this direction is counterweighted by colleges’ need to keep their retention and graduation rates up. They would not continue to admit students from a school with a track record of dragging those down.
Exactly!

Our neighbor went to Yale from Wilson and barely lasted a year. Very sad. She still hasn't enrolled somewhere.

There was a recent year in which the jail track definitely outpaced the Yale track.

You should head back over to the MD/VA public school forum where anyone actually believes your insecure and untrue proclamations. You sound desperate for validation of your choices.

Yah disregard that the graduation was 75% for years until DC put in the new standards for low functioning children to help them graduate. Attendance and class work optional! Not to mention reading

middle of the pack at an elite school is a bad thing? Does this mean that all the non-Wilson grads are at the head of the pack? Someone please help me, my math skills are lacking.

I know another student who was admitted to a different Ivy. She was top of her class at Wilson, but really struggled in college because she hadn't been prepared to write at the level that the college expected of its students.

Well I know five Wilson students at Yale doing amazing things.

I went to a hs way worse than Wilson and then went to an ivy. It's true I was underprepared especially in terms of writing. But I worked hard and asked for lots of help and graduated with honors. There were lots of other people like me and they all went on to be 'productive members of society'. Being in the middle of the pack at an ivy sets you up well for life.

Likewise I went to one of the best public high schools in the country and every year some kids drop out of a state university and go to community college for a while. And yet I know they are still functioning adults now.

Good for these Wilson kids, and all the DCPS graduates getting their plans in place.

I went from a really crappy city high school to an elite college too.
It was really hard--for instance college chemistry (gen chem) was all new material for me and total review for everyone else.
However, I don't regret going to that college. It's served me well since. And I don't regret going to that high school. It got me in to that college. I don't think I would have been accepted from the surrounding suburban high schools.

As another anecdote, I know of another student who went from Wilson to another very elite school (though not an "Ivy"), and had a hard time at least at first. I don't know how it turned out though. (I am not a PP).

You can't handle the truth. It doesn't matter much though. Because they are #winning and all of them have a more gracious attitude than you do.

Hahahahahahahahaha!

My god, I totally agree. A horrifying group of people that are posting on this thread. It boggles the mind.

My child goes to Wilson and is a straight A student. She is whip smart but I know she will struggle if she gets into an academically rigorous college. Wilson academic standards are certainly lower than those of the private high school I attended as a teenager. However, because she is smart, she will learn quickly and do well. Yes, students who have gone to rigorous private schools that cost at least 40K a year will find the adjustment much easier, but most intelligent 18 year olds will pick things up quickly and do just fine in the long run. There is a lot of nasty garbage on this thread, and it only speaks ill of the trolls that are posting.
